We Cannot Have Nice Things: Michigan Tech 2010-2011 Season Thread: Part Tre

Re: We Cannot Have Nice Things: Michigan Tech 2010-2011 Season Thread: Part Tre

Drivetime notes with Jamie:
Clean slate going into the playoffs
UND played well, we weren't very sharp
McCadden was a plus two on Saturday, amazing stat
First 5 min this Friday are critical
There's a chance for both Gordic and Olson this weekend, both heading in right direction, will make decision closer to game time

Both teams held their card close to their vest last weekend
There are things we plan to do special teams wise this weekend, expect UND to do the same

goal was big for Carl, voted Defensive player of the year by his teammates
Does a lot of dirty work and little things against top lines in the country

Frattin is pretty good, Jamie voted for him for finalist for Hobey Baker
Terrific turn around by him, got kicked off team, went home got a job, great kid in locker room and works hard

Everyone needs to be better this weekend
Start with confidence, need a good first 5 mins

Team leaves this afternoon at 2, go half way to Grand Forks

Interesting. UND did the same thing. You would assume they would make the trip in one shot.

UND didn't want to spend any more time in Houghton then they have to. And I would assume vice versa.

Tech has no cards to keep close to their vest. They will be hard pressed to keep this anywhere near close. If they could lose 5-2 & 4-1 it would be a super moral victory !
Bigger sheet of ice not good for the Huskies. Gordic and Olson have all summer to heal get them on the ice. I am expecting a BIG Annoucement early next week !

Then it is a good thing that the Ralph has NHL sized ice...do you have any clue what you're talking about?

Gordic and Olson make a huge difference. I expect losses more in the neighborhood of 6-2 than 11-1. :o

I agree. Last weekend Tech basically played against UND with a pair of 3rd lines and a pair of 4th lines. Having a first line back (Olsen and Gordic) won't be enough, but it will at least close the gap. Saturday they should have thrown everyone's sticks in the middle of the rink and just played some pickup hockey. It's hard enough to keep up with a team like UND with a full roster. I fully expected last Friday's game to be a 10-0 game.

Sorry, I thought all newer rinks went to Olympic size.

Amsoil, the Ralph, whatever Bemidji is calling their new place now, Qwest, and Magness are all new(er) and NHL-sized.

Sullivan, Alltel, CSWA, NHC, and the Mooch were designed and built between the late 80s and mid-90s when it was popular to install Olympic-size ice in newer facilities, but that trend seems to have faded now. And of course, Wisconsin beats their own drum with that 200x97 sheet or whatever it is.

Notre Dame's will be 90x200 and some of the eastern schools have odd sizes.

I was watching the Minnesota HS tourney and a drummer from Hermantown was wearing a Tech sweatshirt during the game vs. Alexandria.

They're building a brand new arena and putting in a rink with effed up dimensions? That is simply retarded. Put in an olympic rink or an NHL rink, NOTHING IN BETWEEN!

Re: We Cannot Have Nice Things: Michigan Tech 2010-2011 Season Thread: Part Tre

I don't know if it was just a fad. I believe the NCAA at the time was asking schools to make it as close to 200x100 as possible. They then went back and said 200x85 again.

Why? It makes it fun. Would you want the same dimensions in every MLB ballpark?

Re: We Cannot Have Nice Things: Michigan Tech 2010-2011 Season Thread: Part Tre

The DECC was 190x85, right? RIT plays on a 185x85. Ridiculous.

I think they should install landmines in the ice. That would also make it more fun.
