No, it's not a great scenario for Wisconsin -- not just for attendance, but just because they don't get to play at their normal home rink -- but it's something to which they've become accustomed. Scheduling at Kohl Center is already a nightmare for that team given that they're 4th in priority behind men's hockey and both Badger basketball squads. Add to that that Kohl Center is the arena of choice for the WIAA (high school league) state wrestling and basketball tournaments, so the women's hockey team gets the boot. Their new rink, when finished, will help immensely.

While I was at OSU just over a week ago, the comment was made that the Buckeyes women's team was considering playing their games at the Schottenstein Center. While the OSU Ice Rink is a less-than-ideal facility, I can't see a move to the Schott as being anywhere near a good idea... it would be cavernous for the average OSU attendance, and would create the same logistical headaches that are at Kohl Center.

If BSU can somehow find a way to contain that top line, it would seem that their chance to advance in the tournament goes up exponentially.

Agreed about BSU needing to contain that top line, but the stat doesn't surprise me at all. How does a team that isn't even top two in their conference have three of the top scorers in the nation? By having an overwhelming majority of their scoring coming from those three players. (Then again, scoring defense does play into that too.)

Overwhelming majority, yes, but 21 of 22? That's almost unheard of, at any level.

You may not want to hear this, but the last team outside of UW, UM, and UMD to finish in the top 3 was SCSU in 2010. The Huskies lost to the sixth seed in the quarterfinals in three games. That sixth seed was Bemidji State. :eek:

A fairly long list of very impressive, remarkably talented bunch of players in the WCHA are nearing the end of their college careers. Watch 'em while you can. ;)

I bet ya knew this already...just sayin'.

It is true; of the top six, all lose something. Listing players who play a lot:

Wisconsin: Brooke Ammerman, Hilary Knight, Carolyne Prévost, and Brittany Haverstock;
Minnesota: Sarah Erickson, Anne Schleper, Jen Schoullis, Kelly Seeler, and Emily West;
North Dakota: Stephanie Ney, Alyssa Wiebe, Monique Weber, Margot Miller, Kelsey Ketcher, and Sara Dagenais;
Minnesota-Duluth: Haley Irwin, Kacy Ambroz; Jennifer Harss, Lana Steck;
Ohio State: Natalie Spooner, Laura McIntosh, Kelly Wild, Melissa Feste, Brittany Carlson;
Bemidji State: Zuzana Tomcikova, Montana Vichorek, Marlee Wheelhouse, Kimberly Lieder, Lauren Williams, and Alana McElhinney;

Doesn't mean that the league will be weaker next year, but there are a number on that list that have been stars for years. You could put together a team that would win a lot of games.

The Bulldogs are also losing Jenny Harss and Lana Steck. That's going to make UMD goaltending interesting for the next couple of years.

I knew about Harss when I started the post, but by the time I got down to UMD and scanned rosters, I'd forgotten already. Old brains frequently malfunction. :o And then I should have added Steck as I did McElhinney, because backups become very important once the starter is gone. The good news for UMD is that they at least have a couple of high-profile goalies coming in, while I'm not sure that BSU does.

The Sioux survived an outstanding effort by Bemidji senior goalie Zuzana Tomcikova, who ended with 31 stops.

“She was unbelievable,” Idalski said. “We easily could have had another four or five goals. She did everything in her power to give her team a chance. I’m not going to lie, I’m glad to see her graduate.”
