WCHA Thread III

Re: WCHA Thread III

I tend to agree with this train of thought. If the award was WCHA Offensive Player of the Year, then it would be hard to argue against JLam. However, it's Player of the Year which, ideally, factors in other issues like defense and perhaps leadership. Those could be the issues, instead of a league-wide conspiracy against someone.

Same potential situation with MLam on defense. Yes, a big time scorer from the blueline, but is she great defensively? I don't really know.

Brad nailed the argument? I actually don't think you're entitled to win WCHA Player of the Year because you won the league scoring title by 10 points, just because lots of other WCHA Players of the Year also won the scoring title by a similar margin. None of the other players mentioned there were on a team that finished a distant third in the league.

There's a case to be made for JLam as WCHA Player of the Year, but I don't like the claim that JLam absolutely must have personally offended other coaches. There's a case to be made for Decker as well (e.g. points against the top 4 teams.)

I do object more to MLam being on the Second Team.

And being the top two in the league for penalties probably didn't help much.

Re: WCHA Thread III

1st time a team besides the ONLY teams to ever win a ncaa championship has finished top 3 in a nonolympic year..valuable players?

Re: WCHA Thread III

I don't think anyone is real surprised that North Dakota has joined "The Big Three" in the upper tier of the standings. Seemed to be just a matter of time. Now you need to win a title to truly join the club. :)

Yes, that is the main focus. And the banners will be coming.

I find it hard to fault MLK for helping her team out on D as she is one of the top offensive players in the world. That is unselfishness, character, and she played excexceptional!!

Also, the Lamoureux sisters are co-captains of the team, so they should have the leadership aspect covered (in regards to the previous mention that perhaps JLam did not get it due to a lack of leadership).

Overall though, I can't complain too much. As was mentioned, the award was for Player of the Year, not Offensive Player of the Year. Certainly MLK stole some votes from her sister, and it is not like Decker is snot compared to the Lamoureux twins. Decker is one of the best players in the league, plays for the #1 team in the nation, and has impressive stats of her own. I have no qualms about her getting the award. She is a deserving Player of the Year.

Re: WCHA Thread III

The 2011-2012 season is over and thoughts for some have shifted to the off season with some early attention already directed at the 2012-2013 season. The topic of a pretty incredible senior class across the entire conference departing the various programs...very key players for their respective teams throughout their careers, has been touched on previously. I don't think one can dispute the large impact the '11-'12 senior class has had on their teams.

From what we know at this point, a list of those expected to be joining WCHA rosters for 2012-2013...courtesy of Hux and his sources:

It's safe to say there is a truck load of highly regarded / talented players joining WCHA rosters for next season. There are big shoes to fill and it will be interesting to see some new leaders emerge.

Just now taking my closest look at North Dakota...looks like they've added some wallop up front and strengthened the blue line.

It would be great if the knowledgeable could fill us Midwestern inhabitants in on any players from outside our little bubble.

Re: WCHA Thread III

According to a short blurb in the St. Paul Pioneer Press today, 1980 USA "Miracle" team member John Harrington has a serious interest in the Maverick men's head coaching position.

Re: WCHA Thread III

MLK sure is having a good World tourney for only being a 2nd team WCHA pick!
She's playing forward. IMO, she's a better forward than a D. It should be noted that both of the D on the WCHA first team are currently teammates of Mo at the Worlds, so it isn't like they are chopped liver.

Re: WCHA Thread III

There's part of me that thinks he should be fired all together and that 5 games isn't enough, but it's better than non-action, I guess.

I agree that he should be fired. When I thought that he had been I recall thinking that MSU had stepped up to the plate with respect to integrity and had done the right thing...how refreshing...how admirable. Now to find that I had misread the article...well, "disappointing" doesn't quite cover it.

MSU hasn't done itself any favours even though it would have meant going through the process of finding another coach again. It can't make recruiting any easier.

One thing's for sure...I think. Flygh wouldn't have reacted the same way to that time out and had he been hired MSU wouldn't have found itself in this unpleasant situation...being caught between the ship and the dock.

Re: WCHA Thread III

Please forgive my ignorance with respect to this subject. What did he do to warrant the suspension?
