Re: WCHA Thread III

Minnesota is a nice pick. Schoullis Can't be replaced no matter what people might say. I felt she was a beast and will be sorely missed.

Wisconsin loses some key players but still has my favorite player Knight. I feel she is and was the best player in the league.

UMD loses some key pieces including their best D.

I really like both ND and OSU and feel both have a great chance to contend (seriously).

BSU doesn't lose much and will stay middle of the pack with the top goalie in the league.

I liked hard MSU skated and will upset more teams next year.

Then of course SCSU. Don't see much of a change next year sorry to say.

Agree on Schoullis, and fortunately she does NOT have to replaced as she WILL be back for her senior year! :)

I think they'll miss Cody...but Emily E. should slip into her role as a leader and top threat nicely, I would guess. Tomcikova is obviously an excellent 'tender that can win games for the Beavers. Top goalie in the league has room for debate though IMO. Middle of the pack...yeah, probably. Definitely see them finishing above MSU-M and SCSU. I'd really like to see them push the rest of the WCHA as well...just not sure they can improve on last season results.

I agree completely with your thoughts on Schoullis, and I'm with D2D...grateful #24 will be back because she will definitely be missed after next season.

Re: WCHA Thread III

This site listed her as a senior.

Minny is my choice! Nice!

She was a senior academically but a junior in eligibility. She missed her academic junior year of hockey after having shoulder surgery and therefore still has a year left.

Emily West was also a senior academically last year but did not play after a knee injury. Gopher fans expect that she also will be suiting up again this fall.

Re: WCHA Thread III

Both are great players and will make the Gophers a favorite. Man it will be tough on the incoming to crack the lineup. They could have 5 solid lines!

The WCHA Rookie class...so far. I count 15 with various National Team experience. That's adding a whole bunch of top notch talent to the conference by anyone's standards I'd say...which is certainly not to say those joining WCHA rosters without National Team experience are not very talented as well, and will add much excitement to conference competition in 2011-2012. Madison...as seems to have become standard procedure, a magnet for blue chippers. Could it be the Badgers don't miss a beat after Duggan, Deluce, Nash & Prough...etc.? It could IMO.

Obviously there should be many making strong cases for an All Rookie Team as well as RotY. Much could ride on how they transition to D-I and assimilate on their rosters. I think WCHA fans can't help but to expect some very intense competition and entertaining hockey starting Oct. 2011.

That list is missing Michelle Karvinen at NoDak who committed a year earlier but makes her playing debut this season. I'd expect her to be in the RotY discussion.

Re: WCHA Thread III

Man, the WCHA is going to be a blood bath next year. At least I have complete confidence that the conference will be rewarded for its strength of schedule come NCAA tourney time.

2nd time I neglected to include her in posts concerning the 2011-2012 freshman class. With the talent evident in the incoming frosh class, I expect a handful of players to distinguish themselves as potential RotY. We'll see if she's among them. I have no reason to doubt it, but I think some of the other freshmen could make it a difficult selection.

I see Miss Karvinen was listed as a freshman on the 2010-2011 roster (USCHO version). Was she actually enrolled at UND throughout last season?

According to this previously linked story, she red-shirted while playing for a Danish men's team. So a red-shirt year implies enrolled, while her team causes one to assume that she wasn't attending classes in G.F., ND. Must be on the Lam Olympic year plan.

Knowing the NCAA they will be rewarded with Quarterfinal match-ups with each other in the tournament.

...but of course. Yet when the dust settles at the conclusion of the 2012 FF...one thing will remain unchanged, again.

Re: WCHA Thread III

Okay...a long shot here. Does anyone know, either off the top of their head, or where it might be published somewhere, those WCHA rules of fan conduct that are framed and hanging on the East wall of Ridder Arena? Near the elevator IIRC. Thanks much to anyone who might know.

I thought they would make a nice USCHO signature.

Re: WCHA Thread III

What's the feeling among WCHA fans in the forum? Should UW be considered the clear pick to take all the conference marbles again in 2011-2012? Anyone have thoughts towards another WCHA program mounting a serious challenge to the Badgers? Even if the Badgers prevail...are chances the margin will be smaller a reasonable expectation?

Re: WCHA Thread III

Brooky,

I think Minny will be the favorite to win not only the WCHA but also everything. I think they have the most top to bottom talent and a great goalie. They will have many key Seniors who will be hungry. Wisconsin and UMD lose some strong key players and will be just behind. Just have to contain my favorite WCHA player Knight. I do think ND will be as strong as last year and my dark horse OSU with the new head coach and a nice group of seniors will contend.

My rank today would be

MINNY
Wisconsin
ND or OSU
UMD
BEMIDJI
MSU
SCSU

I wouldn't be surprised to see any of Wisc, ND, OSU or UMD taking the #2 spot.

:D

Yep...I'd like to see this too...at least once in her WCHA career. ;)

...at least Duggan has moved on. That's a plus for UW opponents.

Who do you play with Knight & Decker when they need to score next season?
