Re: WCHA Thread III

MJ would be great choice but I think your going to see Fetter (Wayne St.) in Jo Pa land
Coaching the Penn State men? If I'm PSU and I'm starting men's hockey, I want to make a sexier hire than someone who failed to make double digits in wins in women's hockey the last two seasons. I don't care how good a coach he is by reputation, he'd need better proven results to make a splash. Maybe you mean Fetter will be coaching the women in Happy Valley, and that could be, but the discussion regarding Johnson was the men's team.

Yes, my response was in regard to the womens team.

Re: WCHA Thread III

Here is the announcement of the WCHA Honors. Duggan is indeed Player of the Year.

Question, Kim Martin was named the WCHA Goaltending Champion, but Noora Raty was named to the All-WCHA First team. Martin made the All-WCHA Third Team. I see where Kim Martin did post the lowest GAA in the games she played, but Raty edged her out in Save Percentage and Alex Rigsby easily had the best winning percentage. Is the WCHA Goaltending Champion determined solely by who has the lowest GAA, or do other factors enter into it? If someone is crowned the "WCHA Goaltending Champion" doesn't it make sense that this person should also be All-WCHA First team?

Re: WCHA Thread III

I was going to ask the same thing, but being a UMD homer it would've sounded like whining coming from me.

No. One is a pure statistical award based on dividing goals allowed by games played. The other is an award based on a wider range of information.

I think the main factor that hurt Kim in voting was that she had many fewer starts than Zuzana or Nora, and their durability was rewarded.

Same thing happens in baseball Cy Young voting -- sometimes you give the award to someone with a lot more Innings Pitched and Wins than a guy who typically doesn't last through the 6th, missed a few starts, but has a better ERA.

Congratulations to all those talented young ladies who were recognized last night. As is normal when there are so many to choose from, there are going to be some very deserving players who are left out for a variety of reasons.

Re: WCHA Thread III

Since it is an exercise in futility...just one final comment on the subject. The WCHA got BONED!

Re: WCHA Thread III

Congratulations to the Badgers and the WCHA once again. Maybe they should have an 8 team tournament out east and let that team play the WCHA tournament winner. That would lessen the NCAA's concern about flying teams around.

Re: WCHA Thread III

This is the 9th straight year that the team that won the WCHA tournament has also won the NCAAs. I'd think that it would be difficult to produce back-to-back tournament wins against tough competition, but given that it keeps happening, maybe that first win goes a long way to upping the winner's confidence for the second.

Gasp...

2010-2011...another season of 2 NCAA D-I Ice Hockey titles for the WCHA.

Kinda puts me in a mood for some poetry as a tribute. Ice?
