WCHA Playoffs

Re: WCHA Playoffs

Some interesting (but unconfirmed) information coming out of the Minnesota athletic department... I received and email at 11:59 pm Wednesday night indicating that the WCHA Championship Game has been moved to 3 PM (rather than 12 Noon) on Sunday.

Please note that the email did not specify that this was a time change, and there is conflicting information on GopherSports.com itself, so I'm thinking that the email may have been a typo. The email had two links -- one to a PDF poster that says the game is at 3:00, but another to a web page on GopherSports.com that says the game is still at Noon. And WCHA.com and CollegeHockeyStats.net still report the game at Noon (or, more specifically, 12:07).

I personally would love the later start time. Sunday morning worship at my church probably won't let out until 11:30 (it starts at 10:30), and there's a post-worship discussion group on a book we've been reviewing. If (when) the Gophers advance, I'll have to skip the discussion group (sorry, Reverend :o), and rush like mad to get to Ridder by faceoff.

Can you follow up with the source of the email? Because if someone is notifying people that the game is 3 hours later than it really is, that could cause problems.

Re: WCHA Playoffs

Either way I just hope the Gophers are playing in this game. :)

Also note that there will be an overlap with the mens game which starts at 1:00 pm next door - they play Wisconsin so they should draw a big crowd and fill up the parking lots.

Re: WCHA Playoffs

The email was indeed a typo. I called the Gopher ticket office, and Sunday's championship game is confirmed for a 12:07 start.

(And I let them know about the bad email.)

Now I hope I have a reason to skip that book review discussion... :p

Gosh, the book group sounds pretty important. In the interest of promoting both literacy and faith, the Gophers should step aside. We'll be glad to handle the Sunday afternoon game.:p ;)

The Bulldogs would graciously accept the position as co-host!

On a personal level and since we're talking religion, then if by some miraculous act of God ;) the Buckeyes should win Saturday, it actually would significantly relieve the burden on my conscience (though that burden would be replaced with a lot of disappointment).

That said, I'll gladly tell my minister on Sunday that I can't stick around after worship after the Gophers advance. I refuse to let the WCHA Championship Game be the first Gopher game (home or away) I miss even a portion of this calendar year.

I feel compelled to agree with this idea. For the love of God, man, we're talking about the eternal fate of your immortal soul here. Can the Gophers for once look outside themselves and do the right thing? Can they? I think they can.

Does that mean you're going to be in attendance?:) Because Dave usually has a pretty busy agenda on game days: dissing the opponent during player intros; keeping the PA announcer awake; letting the on-ice officials know how many more eyes they need before they can be a cyclops; offending goalie moms. If you're filling in for him, I don't think the job can adequately be performed from Columbus.

Re: WCHA Playoffs

Father Chuck Huck (no, really), pastor of the Bemidji State Newman Center, has granted special Dispensation for those of his flock absent from 7 PM Mass who will be attending the Beavers' championship victory on Sunday.

Well I do seem to recall one other "Miracle" on ice...think they even made movie out of it. ;)

Regrettably no. I'd dearly love to attend the tournament -- especially this year. But it's been a few years since I've been able to do so, and the wait will have to last a bit longer.

Dave sounds truly irreplaceable. I guess we'll have to break it to the Reverend: Dave needs to be in position for Sunday's opening face-off -- regardless of who's playing for the title.;)

Thank you. I appreciate the comment (even if it's highly unlikely to happen if the Gophers aren't playing). :)
Here are the Minnesota game notes on GopherSports.com.

I did look, but UMD, Ohio State, and Bemidji State haven't published pre-weekend game notes yet.
Just to follow up on this, here are links for two of these three teams:

UMDBulldogs.com pre-weekend games notes

OhioStateBuckeyes.com pre-weekend game notes

No games notes posted for Bemidji yet...
