WCHA Playoffs 2015: MacNaughton Quest Determined

Re: WCHA Playoffs 2015: MacNaughton Quest Determined

Mark Evans seems to think that it's not a bad idea... :p (just stated so on the TV6 broadcast).

Obviously I'm not advocating for it, I don't want any more L's rung up on the season. The 'Cats need W's, because now (almost) every game through April 11th is an elimination game.

Pregame talk from coach: "Okay boys...I have no confidence in you if we go to Bemidji next week. I don't think you're good enough to win. So what I want you to do tonight is go out in front of one of our biggest crowds of the year and play lousy. I want you to play to lose." Anyone who thinks tanking is ever a good idea is nuts, my friend Mark included.

Bowling Green sure likes to play the pasty teams in the playoffs.

So the team that just went to Bowling Green and swept them two weeks ago is a patsy?

he said "pasty", not "patsy".
but hey you're sensitive, we get it. you don't like criticism of those meat pies.
or maybe it's your unhealthy UP skin tone? :p

congrats to Dan DeSalvo for notching 100 collegiate pts. last night!
and to Brandon Hawkins for clinching top WCHA freshman scorer with 14-14-28.

thanks for catching that! Too early on Sunday! The "pasty" comment is actually pretty good now that I read it right. Always a good trip to Ohio. Good town, great fans!

Congrats Mavs.

Good luck to all the WCHA teams in the post season. Except for UAH of course.

Not a great playoff for visiting fan travel: NMU/BGSU 509 miles, Mankato/LSSU 619, Ferris/Bemidji 752 & UAH/Tech 1020...glad the league made the final weekend all match ups with nearest rivals.

I wonder if the Beavers feel fortunate they're not traveling to Fairbanks. The Nanooks seem pretty invincible the past few weeks.

Come on, can we have just a little good luck? It won't be enough to beat Tech in Houghton I swear. :p

Yes, they played like the team I picked to finish third in the pre-season media poll, and I can't help but think that if the postseason ban had not come down and the losing streak that came with it, they could have gotten third. It stinks that their season is done.

Re: WCHA Playoffs 2015: MacNaughton Quest Determined

Speaking of predictions, I thought I'd drag these out from last fall:

Coaches' Poll

1. Minnesota State (9) 81
2. Ferris State (1) 67
3. Michigan Tech 64
4. Bowling Green 57
5. Alaska 44
6. Northern Michigan 40
7. Alaska Anchorage 38
8. Bemidji State 33
9. Lake Superior State 17
10. Alabama Huntsville 9

Media Poll

1. Minnesota State (23) 256
2. Ferris State (4) 226
3. Bowling Green 180
4. Michigan Tech 178
5. Alaska 163
6. Alaska Anchorage 128
7. Northern Michigan 112
8. Bemidji State 101
9. Lake Superior State 60
10. Alabama Huntsville 26

I can't be too critical of the coaches or the media, because I had UAA 3rd. And, as June Cleaver said, I think we were all a little hard on the Beavers.

Crossing my fingers that Tech is not next season's Ferris State, with the seniors they are losing. Whether or not they're still in the top 4 will probably depend on any early departure by a certain elite goaltender.
But still more hockey to play this year, so we'll enjoy the ride.

I hear you on that! MSU has had a lot of the same core for the last 3 years. We've lost a 20 goal scorer each of the last 2 years, but the main setup man returned. Next year is the great unknown.

I'm surprised about how far Ferris fell off from last year. Yes, I know they were only a couple of points away from home ice, but when you look at their results, they really struggled with goals and significant wins. They were 11-1 against the bottom 3 teams in the conference, and 2-13-1 against everyone else.

I don't see it since he is drafted, Copley left because he was a free agent and who knows if his stock could have gotten any higher...
The Jets don't really have a need to push him with Juho Olkinuora (ECHL), Connor Hellebuyck (AHL), and Mike Hutchinson (NHL) already in the pipeline and 2013 second round pick Eric Comrie playing in CHL right now.

Do be fair they were a very opportunistic team in a goals by committee type setup, sometimes a little unbalance can really throw that off. Hopefully in the case of MTU, the removal of the big scoring senior class means a valuable increase in opportunities for underclassman who have the ability and learned how to be leaders from this group of seniors. We need to see more players emerge like Malcolm Gould has to take the next step.
