WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

Re: WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

No I'm not in employed with the Qwest center. I just don't like going to X I think it should have been built somewhere else. I also like the idea of going back to rotating through Madison, Denver, Omaha and Minneapolis.

So you are upset because you had a different proposed building site for the Xcel Energy Center?

It would NEVER be in Madison. NEVER. Not when there is pumpkin pushing to be hosted. The time they held it in Wisconsin it wasn't even in Madison.

You have not proposed a good reason why it should be anywhere else. The only reason you proposed was actually wrong.

Yeah because Madison and Omaha are real exciting places to visit; and there are a ton of hockey fans in Omaha...
Pretty sure Minnesota is the only state that even has a high school hockey tournament.

Other then Michigan...and North Dakota...and Wisconsin...and etc....

What does someone from St. Francis know about the state tournament anyway? :p

But he does have a point. Madison is certainly no St. Cloud as far as exciting places to visit.

Yeah... except for the 10-15 other states that have a high school hockey tournament. I see that you've moved on from embarrassing the St, Clooud fan base to embarrassing the entire state.

Houghton to Omaha: 13:08
I am not a fan of this.

It's at Xcel because that's where it belongs.
I don't care for the X, the atmosphere is only on par with most NHL rinks IMO and if you're in the upper bowl it feels like you are a mile away along with the fact that it isn't even a large capacity NHL rink.

That said, there is no where else this tournament should be held. The amount of establishments around the rink, the safe environment despite a large city, etc makes it perfect. For the fans, there is no better place the the F5 could possibly be held.

It's not truly the "Western" college hockey until its held out in Vegas.

Vegas, baby, yeah!
Lies! Western = Alaska, baby, yeah!!

Have you ever attended the final five at the X?

You might be the first person I've ever known to say all that.

Re: WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

Who brought up Omaha? Do people there even know what hockey is? It's too boring of a state to have anything this awesome held there. (This coming from someone who lives in ND :p )

18,500 isn't big? Plus, someone before said it isn't the size it's the location.

I've heard their steaks are good. Maybe that could be substituted for the Broadmoor. The Final Five winner now receives a case of Omaha steaks.

Or conversely, we could just uphold the status quo and keep it in St. Paul which is held in an AWESOME hockey facility with a ton of things to do within walking distance (beer tailgating, checking out Twin Cities skanks at Tom Reids, the Woodfire Grill place with awesome food, having 3 inches between yourself and the next person at McGovern's).

How about this? Each arena could just alternate hosting, and the WCHA could lose a fortune. I'd love for it to be at tDECC, but frankly even 7000 seats ain't cutting it.

Does that mean that instead of Red Baron pizza being handed out next to the arena they will hand out perfectly cooked Omaha filet mignons?

Only if Tech gets to host first!!!

Re: WCHA Final Five: Hello Empty Seats

Only the 23rd largest rink of 30

But my point wasn't that it is too small, it isn't. I just expect a smaller rink to be more intimate than it is. There are way too many seats too far away for the size of the rink so it isn't that great for atmosphere IMO.

My seats are usually on the end, maybe 5 rows from the top, and I love them.

As for atmosphere, if the game warrants it, it's there. I haven't been to a more intense game with unreal atmosphere than the UND-MN F5 title game a couple years ago. Yes, that's a dream scenario, but when a game is good, the crowd is electric.
