WCHA 21-22 Season

UM @ BSU...........UM is probably worried as BSU dumped perennial eastern power the Fightin' Nurses upholding the glory of the West. Not. UM sweeps.
UW @ MSU..........Game 1 may be a trap game, big emotional letdown for UW. UW sweeps.
St. Cl @ OSU.......I liked what saw out of St. Cloud, but OSU will take out their getting swept blues on them, and even without being mad, OSU sweeps, they just sweep more this weekend, like get credit for 3 wins when they win 2.
Tommies @ RIT....The West's domination will continue, Tommies sweep on the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BSU v UM: i’m going to bet on my Beavers and say a split.
OSU & WI sweep their series
UST splits with RIT

Wisconsin absolutely sleepwalking their way through in Mankato. The Mavericks are blocking lots of shots and breaking up lots of passes. Frank has been good in goal, but hasn't really been pressured all that hard. Ties at 1-1 after two periods.

Wake up, Badgers!!

They seem to have some games against the Landcows that are headscratchers...

A much better third period for Wisconsin in terms of pressuring Frank and generating SOGs, but Frank held up really well. A coincidental minors 4-on-4 halfway through created enough time and space for Watts to beat Frank clean, and Wisconsin wins 2-1.

Yikes! Good job by Mankato, not good but just good enough by Wisconsin.

My fears were realized!

Definitely some confusion by the Buckeyes there. LaMantia’s skating and awareness to feel that pressure drop away and therefore hold onto the puck were great. I wanted a longer more chaotic OT though! :-)

Hoping the following comment will still be of interest; I'm fully aware this is a week late. Watched every minute of last Sunday's OSU/UW game, but didn't have a chance to get on USCHO that day.

My comment is that 3x3 is supposed to create extra time & space for players to show skill. I'd even argue that the coverage lapses are anticipated, even desired by the proponents of the rule. Particularly when you lead off the OT with 3x3, as we're doing this year.

Of course the GWG didn't suit my rooting interest either. But I'd say the current 3x3 rule worked exactly as intended. If one believes that breaking ties is all-important, well, the tie was broken.

Regardless, a ton of credit goes to Nicole L. She took the extra moment given, picked a target, and nailed it. That distinguished her from most of the players on both teams.

Both teams had a number of good quality chances in regulation. Almost without exception, quality shots & set-up passes were released hurriedly, on an ASAP basis. When you're playing against a top defense -- as both teams were -- that is totally understandable. But it doesn't give you the most appealing odds when trying to beat a top notch goaltender.

Bigger picture, maybe we can have an ongoing discussion of the current 3x3 rule, as the season goes on & more results come in.

Ohio State absolutely destroying St.Cloud 8-1 and it's only halfway through the 2nd!
Multiple players on the verge of hat tricks.

I love a good bloodbath. Awesome.

Great to see the Tommies uphold the glory of WCHA with a win and a tie this weekend. Watts an accomplishment!

I don't like either but at least 3 x 3 is hockey (kinda) while the shootout is not. I say 3 x 3 is kinda hockey because the players play it so cautiously it's like they are in slow motion. I prefer a 5 on 5 for 10 minutes as the ot and a tie is fine with me.

The 3 on 3's that I have watched this season were a joke. If you don't want a tie, then a coin toss could end it just as quickly. On the pro level, sure, there are players with the ability to handle the stresses. College level -- not as many talented players, and not the ice time for coaches to practice that. 4 on 4 I can see. 3 on 3, dump it, I am not onboard.

If you had to pick shoot out or 3 on 3, which one would you pick?

4 on 4 would definitely be an improvement.

I just hate shoot-outs! I absolutely prefer anything over a shoot-out. I actually like 3 on 3, but that could be based on the Badgers' winning percentage with that configuration.
