WCHA 2023-2024 Calamity Or Calmness?

St. Cloud kinda made a statement, losing to the rodents not badly but beating an over-rated NE squad.
UMD did sweep MSU, shots were pretty close.

UMD at BSU
UM at OSU
St. Cloud at MSU
UW at St. Thomas

Looks like all the road teams sweep to me.

UMD did get the sweep, but game 1 was close scoring-wise, not so much SOG-wise.
UM gets swept in a pair of 1 goal games, but got hammered allowing 50 plus shots each game. Maybe tosu has an issue in goal or d play giving up so many goals.
Huskies sweep, sog were even in game 2.
UW gets the sweep, but it's very apparent how much they miss Harvey. C Edwards missed the weekend as well. A 3rd D was injured as well, UW could be in trouble on the backend just as the opponents get tougher.

This week....
UW at Huskies. UW's injuries at D could spell trouble.
Tommies at UMD. UMD is probably over-rated but should handle the Tommies
MSU-UM home n home. I don't think MSU is there yet. UM sweeps.
tosu at BSU. Can BSU play with 6 skaters please.

I realize you're just tossing out an unresearched quip. But it is off target. Reasons we "gave up so many goals" include:

1. They're still the Gophers. Still an offensive powerhouse with tons of skill, no matter what their critics say.

2. Four of the Eight U of M Goals on the weekend came on the man advantage. I don't recall any of them stemming from bad goalkeeping. Could be our PK needs work. At least that would be a conversation worth having. But remember, that opposing PP is still the Gophers.

3. When you put up 51 SOG on Friday, and 52 SOG on Saturday, you're attacking aggressively. Doing that means yielding some chances on the counter-attack. To a team that's still the Gophers. Underestimate them at your peril!

If you think that's the style that's going to work for you, that's ok with me. It barely worked on home ice. The big question is will it work the last game you play in the season?

Barely worked? My sense is that you're going to be able to hang that label on virtually every game this season that matches up two of the top three teams.

Ideal Game Plan? Never made that claim. I was just trying to explain last weekend's scores.

The best teams have more than one set of tactics at their disposal. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see the Buckeyes mix things up going forward. In fact, I'd be surprised if they didn't change things up from time to time.

Will the Buckeyes try to run and gun with the Gophers next time? Maybe? Or maybe they'll play for a "road win." Will the Buckeyes play the same way against the Badgers as they do against the Gophers? I doubt it. But those decisions belong to those at the higher pay grades. (winking emoji here)

UW and St. Cloud looked too much the same. UW got killed on the faceoff dots both games but the PP saved the day, going 2/3 both games.
UMD did as thought.
MSU is almost there.
I don't think 7 skaters would have helped. BSU did allow less SOG than UM did! WOW.

From Watts I saw this last weekend, tosu should be the #1 team in the country. UW without KK and a string of other short term injuries at D is a lot like last year's regular season team. I love the way the year ended, but the regular season was dicey.

One game in the league this week, an interesting match-up:

Tommies at MSU, a battle of my second favorite color and a toss up I'd say.

Tommies handle the purple cows 4 1. Outshot them 29 22. They scored two powerplay goals and allowed none.

I was thinking that the purple cows would have won that game. Interesting.

WCHA recruiting update...

The Tunnelers get a commitment from Canadian defenseman, Chloe Primerano... Very nice.

The Chihuahuas, added another very good Canadian forward to go along with Caitlin Kraemer in Reese Login. Also very nice.

BIG week....

UW at Tosu
St Cloud Tommies home n home
MSU at BSU
MN at MN-D

I had no idea BSU MSU and Tommies have zero league points 8 games into the league schedule. Wow.

Thought about doing a tale of the tape between 1 and 2, but IF Harvey is still out, I think UW is in BIG trouble and the stats would be like looking at yesterday's weather predicting tomorrow's. I do think 2 has an advantage in goal. Gervais makes me nervous and McNaughton hasn't faced shooters this good other than in practice every day.

Bad news Timbo, KK is out. I have a bad feeling Tosu will gain more points than UW this weekend.

Thinking about the 'rematch of the national championship game', I count ten players on the Ohio State roster and seven on Wisconsin's who weren't there playing last March. FWIW

It's going to be a VERY raucous sold out crowd tonight unless the Badgers take them out of the game.
It's also military appreciation night and my daughter who was discharged just a week ago is going to attend.

Welp, I have once again been reminded that trying to watch a game through the netting on BTN+ gives me a migraine, so I'll be checking in after the game. Can y'all get that new rink built down there?

The first goal by Ohio State was being reviewed, and one of the OSU assistants jumped on her cell phone immediately and then was relaying from the phone to Muzzerol.

It is my recollection from some men's game last year the announcers saying the NCAA hockey was unusual in that the coaches on the bench aren't allowed to have a "replay review guy" to check with, that they could only rely on what the see themselves from the bench.

Do I remember that wrong, do I have that wrong? Can somebody on the bench be making phone calls during a review?

Boy, The sinner's #17 with a very dangerous play near the end of the 1st period, sticking the knee out which caused the yuckeye player to go casters up.

That play was really the story of the game. Stupid, dangerous, undisciplined and ugly kneeing penalty by Curl, and two power play goals on the 5 minute major meant Wisconsin never had a chance to make a push. Very good hockey game - just an exceptional level of play in women's college hockey.

Yes, the five minute major was a huge factor in the game and hurt the Badgers badly. But Ohio State had something to prove and played their best hockey of the season thus far with only a few mental errors. They tried to play at such a fast pace they got dinged for two too many men penalties but were very aggressive on the penalty kill. I would assume Saturday's game will be just as intense.
