WCHA 2023-2024 Calamity Or Calmness?

I thought the tunnelers were embarrassing with how they played (which they were) but getting throttled by the Tommy Bahamas? Crap the bed bad...

That score is comically deceptive. It was 2-1 with 3 minutes left, SCSU pulled the goalie and St. Thomas potted the empty netter with just over 2 to play. Then SCSU pulled the goalie again and St. Thomas added another empty netter with just over a minute to play. Than, sending the troops against the shield wall a third time like a stubborn Persian general, Idalski yanks the goalie a THIRD time and the Tommies convert with 15 seconds left for maybe the first time I've ever seen three ENGs in one game.

Hey there. It's been some time since I've been here so bear with me.

Does anyone have information on what happened with goaltender Lauren Barbro in Mankato? She's no longer on the MSU roster, having last played January 5 against Lindenwood, after posting a 6-5-0 record this season.

LOL. Human voters could look at that score and hold it against them in the rankings, luckily I don't think losing 2-1 or 511 affects the pairwise.

This week's rankings are out and here's a head scratcher. Duluth didn't drop any spots for their losses last weekend. Yes they played strong games but getting swept is getting swept or so I thought.

I think I'm going to watch the Beanpot final games today, one of us might play one of those teams in a regional.
They're on ESPN+ at 5:00 & 8:00et.

Perhaps no one below them did anything to warrant moving up?

Other teams to slide up when one slides down is the norm, to imply otherwise is reverse logic.

In the prior poll, with Duluth at #7, Quinnipiac was #6. Q lost to Colgate and Cornell. That dropped them to #8. Cornell had been #8; they beat Princeton and Quinnipiac, and moved up to #6. St Cloud had been #9, but they lost to St Thomas, and so instead of rising, they dropped to #10. St Lawrence had been #10, they moved up to #9.

Yes, Duluth lost twice, but so did the team immediately in front of them; and Duluth's losses were 'better' that Quinnipiac's. Should Q have stayed in front of Duluth to push Duluth down a spot?

A tricky weekend coming up......

UW at UMD. They split in Madison. If UDUB wants a shot at the regular season title, a sweep is a must. Not sure it will happen.
OSU at St. Woof. They split in OH. The woofers are coming off a bitter loss. OSU got pushed to the brink by UMD.
MSU/UM Home n Home. Kato eventually melted last weekend, but made the BADgers sweat. Same outcome for the Rodents?
Tommies at Beavers. I have no idea Watts is going to happen here.

I look deep into the crystal screen and I see only 1 sweep. I'll let your imaginations take it from there.

Boy I was a lot closer to just the 1 sweep than I thought I was going to be, UW and MN pulled rabbits out of hats to avoid splits. I think I'm starting to buy what the MN posters are saying about their team.

Tbsu at Tosu. Only 1 letter different in their names but a world apart. Tosu coasting into Madison continues.
Tommies "at" Gophies. Tommies aren't Kato, Gophies broom it up
MSU at UMD. Should be interesting, maybe Kato get some points.
Sled Pullers at Diggers. Diggers trying to stay alive for the league regular season title, they almost blew it Saturday. I honestly I see them dropping points to St. Cloud or maybe even the Rodents, so Tuso wraps it up on home ice.

Yes, worlds apart....
Yikes, WAY closer than "should" have been for the #5 team in the country.
Boy the WCHA is tight, except for BSU
BADgers pooped the bed and lost a point, in essence handing the Muzzies the league title.

Tosu at Kato.....Muzzy train plows through Kato and back.
Gophies home in home Huskies.....This is the series I want to watch. It's a roll of the dice.
UW at BSU....a world apart.
UMD at Tommiettes....Why do I feel more confident about this matchup being a UMD sweep that the rodent tommie matchup? 5HF is in my head.

No surprises other than UM only having 5 SOG in period 1 of game 1.

This week....

St. Cloud vs UMD duking it out for a spot in the ncaa's. Will anyone score a goal? Over under of goals scored on the weekend....5
Tommies at Muzzies.....Yada Yada Yada
BSU at MSU. Neither is a state. MSA sweeps
Goldies at Badgies. Hmmm. Goldie is "stumbling" into Madtown. Badgies not necessarily looking their dominant selves as St. Cloud and UMD gave the troubles. If I believe what the Goldie fans are cooking, UW should crush them nonetheless. IDK. UW does seem to have more top end firepower, I love their top 6 D and I'd say things are even in net. Can LMSP carry the rodents to victory? WI should have 2 lines that can control her. My mind is telling me not to drink the Goldie fan's anti Goldie koolaide. It will probably come down to special teams.

Must be an old joke that didn't age well after the name change; last I checked, Minnesota is a state, even though you'd prefer it wasn't.

If UW doesn't crush the Gophs, then that's on the Badgers, as the visitors will be there for the crushing.

Not sure what your goalies even have to do, playing behind both forwards and D that you love. As long as you don't get an absolute sieve performance, as was the case in the first game in the TC, even your fairly mediocre tenders are plenty. The only easier job this weekend is whomever is playing versus Saint Michaels.

Maybe it's the sight of the uniforms, and the history they conjure up. As an experiment, send St Thomas in Gopher jerseys, and we'll see how it goes from there.

Bemidji State University, Mankato State University will always retain those names in my head. It was funny that my wife of all people brought that up this weekend and she's not nearly as invested in it than I am. Just like UND will always be the Fightin' Sue.

I'm not falling for your old Jedi mind tricks in regards to the series this weekend.

It is easy to sandbag for the current UM team -- just tell the truth. UW has success against the Gophers by totally disrupting their passing. They may be stumped this time because UM's passing is disrupted right off the bus, so the poor Badgers won't have anything to do.

The only thing I guessed wrong about the UMD/St Cloud score was that it ended in regulation! Great D and any given day mentality, either of these teams can play spoilers for playoff teams! Here's hoping St Cloud can get in to the NCAA tournament!
