Honestly, MTU was MUCH dirtier than UND tonight. UND had the 2nd most blatant and most "highlight" reel of the top 3 dirty deeds (Petan punches, MTU running the UND goalie).

Then they are idiots too. That was a perfectly clean hit. If you think otherwise you should consider an appointment with your optometrist and please stay off the road until you do so.

Looked to me like his head wasn't down at all...guarantee he saw the hit coming, foolishly challenged it, and lost the battle. Live and learn...hope he's ok.

He knew that hit was coming, I agree. Honestly, I was more worried when his head hit the ice.

to be fair the WCHA has called it that way all season. They call the result, not the action.

Perhaps I read too much into it and he did not raise an elbow ... anyway that play is called for a major 9 out of 10, so the all the whining and "woe-is-me" we're hearing is probably overblown.
What I was wondering about Don is whether he was there and whether he was the ref that Petan allegedly punched. If so, it would have been a worthwhile punch to throw. :D
Many of you realize this, but I didn't actually see yesterday's game. My posts were designed to mock the Slapping Susies and get a rise out of certain fans. The information therein is based on how I imagine the game must have played out based on the Tech players' superior talents and breeding and intelligence. Carry on. :)
Here's what the Gazette had to say:
David Johnstone, who has 29 points this season, was leveled shoulder-to-shoulder at center ice midway through the first period and later reports revealed a broken clavicle. The hit garnered a 5-minute contact-to-the-head penalty on Andrew MacWilliam in a game that quickly deteriorated into a chippy penalty fest.

well I think most people are right, but there are a few things to think about, whether they are going to change anything I doubt.

the checker dropped his shoulder and checked up as he made contact. The contact was shoulder to shoulder at first, but since the checker was so much bigger, his shoulder did eventually come in contact with Johnstone's chin, at least it appears to me it did. I don't think that could be called contact to the head however.
On a number of occasions I've seen big defensemen penalized for what should be a normal check because their very size makes it tough not to hit the head at some point.

Mostly water over the dam if you ask me though.

I think the thing both sides can take from that game is how well Tech can play, especially when they are outhustling the opponent. They unravelled in the third but played extremely well before that. Pearson has done wonders. Give him just a few more highly skilled players and you have a tourney team.

They have potential, that I can agree on. They definitely have the size with a few of their players (who either match or dwarf Bjugstad, for comparison), they just need the top skill guys.

Man, this will make me feel real dirty (glad I'm going to shower in a few minutes) but I agree with the JBSU fan, the BADger fan and the Whioux fans - clean hit, unfortunate result, bad call. Not every injury deserves a penalty.
