Agreed. The MTU kid is clearly hurt, but that hit was totally legal.

With that said though, I do hope the player(Johnstone) will be alright and makes a speedy recovery.
^ Sums it up. But that seems to be the road that is being taken. At least by the WCHA refs. Don't know what it's like in the other conferences.

That was a dirty hit.
That being said, what Petan did was disgraceful. He should be done for the series, IMO.
Very chippy/dirty game tonight. I think Tech scoring woke UND up a bit, and UND took over. Fluke goal that even Frazee would've stopped made the game closer than it should have been.

What about it was illegal? He didn't hit him with an elbow and there wasn't contact to the head.

Next year coaches will be using the MacWilliam check to show their players how to perform an open ice hit
Worst thing about this is Greg Shepherd (head of officials) talked about how they had went through all of the 5 minute majors doled out this year by WCHA refs and had explained to the referees that 70% of the hits were good hits.
Ive been saying for the last 2 years players are getting penalized for "checking too hard". Tonight was a perfect example.

Not the ones I was with tonight.
Honestly, MTU was MUCH dirtier than UND tonight. UND had the 2nd most blatant and most "highlight" reel of the top 3 dirty deeds (Petan punches, MTU running the UND goalie).
