UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

On D, there is no way Sneddon doesn't play Hamilton. One of Kearley and Lee will have to go and since they seem to love Lee, slow as he is for a skill guy, it may be Kearley.

I agree. I'd be very surprised if Hamilton wasn't playing, I'd just prefer if one of the other guys were. Minny will surely add to our RPI if we can manage a win and whats more it's a bonus game so it could actually help even more so then normal come pairwise time.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Can't wait till Saturday night!
Saw that we get the FSN+ channel on DirectTV as well.
Hope it is as good of a quality picture as the womans volleyball game that was on last night.

No inside info out there on who Sneddon is taking out to Minny?
I hope we open up the offense a little early to test their new goalie as well. Seems we might have an advantage in the most important position.

And test ours too at the same time, right? Ha ha. I don't know about having an advantage in goal -- relying solely on Santa in net this year kinda scares the bejesus outta me.

I can't understand this sentiment? He played 25 games last year and ended with a 0.923sv% and a 2.08 GAA? Why is that in anyway scary. His overall record wasn't great but he also played the top teams losing to PC, BU, BCx2, ND, UML. with most of those losses by a single goal.

I don't have any qualms with Santa being the starter.

It also seemed to me last year that the team played better in front of him than they did when Hoffman was in the net.

Wow you sure made a big leap here, to me Hoffman and Santa were almost equal last year except the untimely bad goals Hoffman would give up
at the wrong time always on bad angle wrist shots. Ex. UML in Boston.

I agree his stats look good, but I'm still nervous to have him as the only option, night in and night out. Just think back to last year, late in the season, when he'd seemingly secured the #1 spot. His play was bad enough that Sneddon had no choice but to go back to Hoff, even though he probably would have preferred to continue punishing him for that hissy fit he threw after getting pulled. I hope you're right, but I wish we had a really good plan B if you're not.

I don't think that's why Hoff went back in... it was likely more of a trying to get the team up and going. Santa was 3-3-2 in the 8 games leading up to Hoff starting. Those 3 losses were to an excellent UML team, BC and a Maine team with their backs against the wall. Over those same games he carried a 2.25 GAA with a .906 sv%. Keeping in mind these were good teams I certainly would not consider this "bad play."

It is more likely Hoff and Sneddon made amends outside of the public eye and Hoff was ready to go back onto the ice. And, Santa was 1-2 against BC at that point giving up 12 goals in the 3 games. BC simply had his number, it was the playoffs and it wouldn't be smart coaching to continue to play a goalie that had struggled against BC. THe other aspect is BC hadn't even seen Hoff that year in game and only once the prior year, so he was something different whereas they had seen Santa 3 times in the course of a month.

I just don't get the whole lack of faith in Santa. He has played 40+ games in his career and has very good numbers. His numbers are at least as good as Hoffman.

Freshman

Hoff .904 Sv% 2.86 GAA
Santa .912 Sv% 2.46 GAA

Sophomore

Hoff .925 Sv% 2.11 GAA
Santa .923 Sv% 2.08 GAA

Junior

Hoff .922 Sv% 2.06 GAA
Santa To be determined.

Either way we will see how it all plays out, but I really don't think if these team doesn't have success it will be on Santa's part...

Congrats, and best of luck for the rest of the season. You guys beat us soundly.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Nice win.

Great win. Way to go cats. Nice shut out Santa, and it is great to have Mario back. No pressure, but let's win the next four games. I have high hopes for this team. Go Cats GO.

BTW, I can't make it to the 10/31 Northeastern game so have 4 great tickets for sale. Section 13 five rows up behind the goal we shoot on for two periods.

Re: UVM 2015-2016 The New Season

Wow. Nice job Cats. you always hope for this type of result but it is surprising when it happens for a young team on the road at what would be considered a formidable opponent. I listened to parts of the first and 2nd periods on the Uminn broadcast. Their announcers were giving props to the Cats by mid first period. Which was encouraging. It seemed like it was a pretty even game at those points....

I have been silent this offseason due to too much work and a lot but never enough play :)

My thoughts on the season are that we will have the usual difficulty scoring but that Puskarich, Bradley and Shaw are a formidable line and will carry the team on offense. However, I like the size of the freshman forwards. The team now has a nice mix of size and speed among the forwards. And a lot of depth. Need another Puskarich or Shaw to help get over the top. Is there one of them in the freshman class?

Not sure what to think of the D. Liked Abramson 2nd half last year. Pattyn is always solid. After that I'm worried. Hamilton is a turnover machine and the others are inconsistent. Hopefully the freshmen can contribute

Goaltending is far and away my biggest concern. While Santa has decent numbers he is just too small to win the tough games. I hope Packy can contribute. Otherwise I think goaltending will be the Cats problem this season, particularly in front of a youngish D.

But great start to the season! Excellent!!!! Nice work Cats, you earned some respect and this should help build confidence (as should having beat BC at BC in the playoffs last year, that is a major step for the program even if a down year for BC)

Keep clawing for more respect!

you only come out when the team wins! haha.

It was a solid performance and if definitely looked like Minnesota was playing its first game and UVM learned from its Acadia game. If Mario can bang them in all season that'd be great I like that top line he's on it will be potent and the Turk line we know is the good grinder line potential with the other two which looks good but they will need production from them. If you are getting something out of all 4 lines that goes a long way last few years despite success offensive production was very favored toward one
You wonder how long Hamilton gets I think he has long leash but I wouldn't be shocked to see him sit though I think Lee is going to emerge as teh freshman dman who will play all season.
Santa had a strong performance and I hope he does keep it up all season but I like others have some long term concerns about him going forward he is going to need to come through in the "big game" becasue I don't know that he really has - only the first real game but hope this is a start.
Would be nice go get some points out of the next four games would help any NCAA hopes but we will see. Still think right now that 6-7th is probably where they land but the upside certainly makes UVM the spoiler to maybe crash the standings high up and like I said if it comes together they are not going to be the team any team wants to face come playoff time late in the season.
Speaking of Munson he didn't even dress according to the line chart wonder what's up there?

Also Vermont Ref nobody wants the Oct 31 tickets me either! Bet there will be lots of people looking to get rid of it. It is the same day as all the VT HS state championship games and UVM hosts a few of them and I am pretty sure there is a UVM basketball game right before the hockey game I am not even going because the par king lot will be a nightmare also I am a grown man who is still going to go trick or treating obviously! haha

The goals from this weekends game. First goal was a nice shot using the screen from the D-man, goalie clearly wasn't expecting it. Second goal was flukey but hey good things happen when you throw the puck on net.
