That's not a concern. There are rules to follow -- like the NCAA gets all the ticket money -- and if you can't accept the rules, don't bid on it.Also think it could be interesting if D1 schools with mid-size+ arenas were able to host. Guessing though that would create a bunch of issues around technical stuff with the NCAA and around who gets any ticket revenue.
Even with predetermined sites, the site has to bid. The NCAA doesn't just pick a place. Same goes with D1 and the NHL rinks that host a Frozen Four. Those arenas put in a lot of money to bid for those events.
I would love to see some mid-size D1 places put in bids. RIT would be a perfect site, as well as a bunch of the new Atlantic Hockey rinks. They are a perfect size, located in decent population areas, and easy to get to and find accomodations.
