Utica University 2024-25 - Retooled and Reloaded

Utica deserves it. They were the better team from the second period on.
Not going to dispute that. Those final two periods were emblematic of SNC's problems all season; get a lead, fall asleep and hold on for dear life after you get scored on. It happened against Gustavus too. I told myself after the Gustavus game that SNC wouldn't be able to play like that against Utica and win. Let's see how the rest of the tournament shakes out.

What a tilt....that's two really good teams going at it. Skill, speed, great saves, big hits, momentum swings.....this one had it all.

Congrats to Utica. I thought they looked a bit out of sorts in the first....but they got stronger as the game went on and played their best hockey in the third.

One QF game down, three to go. First game certainly set the bar high...

Now on to the Hamilton/Curry game .... :D

Even when the score was 3-1, it was pretty clear who the better team was. The poor defensive play caught up to the Knights over the last 25 minutes.
Utica made some egregious miscues as well. (The 1st SNC goal..? The UU guy should have been credited with the primary assist on that minor disaster.)

My take on the game as a whole was that Utica was a bit faster, and played better along the boards. I didn't see Utica's chances being a result of SNC's bad D, as much as was their hard work in the corners.

SNC's first line was a wrecking-ball, but Utica demonstrated a little more depth over the entire 60 minutes.

The goalie-play (IMO) favored #39 in green (Piros allowed 3 goals over his first 14 shots faced, and only one of them was unstoppable.) Not sure if Piros can backstop this team going forward, but he's not bad, I suppose.

Whatever, the better team won, even though I think that SNC was the best team I've seen v. UU this year, edging-out Genny by a toe or so.

Really, really, really exciting game, in any case. Best one I've seen in a long time. There were moments in the 3rd when I considered asking for the AED to be placed somewhere handy to me.

The better team today won. A best of 7 between these two would be a toss up.
As biased as I may be, if these teams play 10 times they would split 5-5. As even of a game I have ever watched. This was a chess match. There were stretches where both teams carried the play. Utica ended up with the bounce their way. I wish these two played more.

Just commenting on this particular game, mind you, but Utica was easily the better team this afternoon. (Inaurguablly, if you ask me.)

Now we're looking at a FF that involves 4 teams within easy driving distance. Seems insane to site the FF anywhere other than UU or The Ira.

This one might be better-attended than it typically is, so Utica is the obvious choice in that regard.

If Curry hosts, OK, but The Cooler would be a gigantic stretch, to put it politely.

It's Utica, confirmed

Thank you for being polite. We love The Cooler because it's our home ice, but it's inappropriate for a FF . Looking forward to some great hockey in Utica. Any of these teams are capable of winning the Championship.
