Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Ray, do you know about any (rumors of) future tourney appearances by the Pioneers?

I have heard from a VERY reliable source, that Utica will be making an appearance in next years Pathfinder Bank Tournament.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Stopped by The Aud today to buy a couple of tickets for our guests this weekend, and the consistently amazing women in the ticket office had a few words of advice that I'll pass on...

No one will be allowed to show-up there with a teddy bear in tow prior to game-night and get a free ticket in exchange for the cuddly little toy. Furthermore, no one will be admitted into the arena simply by dint of clutching such a bundle of joy at the turnstiles, as has always been the case in the past... Nope, you'll have to line up with your furry little charge at the ticket windows, and hope for the best! The nice ladies added that word to this effect has gotten-out, and that they expect there to be very few tickets available for free, stuffed-animal on your person or not.

I've always hated the TBT; it's an irrelevant side-show that delays the game interminably, and thereby negates all the momentum generated by the Utica goal. I am all for donating gifts to economically-disadvantaged children, but gathering them in the lobby always struck me as a better idea than letting them rain down on the ice and on opposing players, who often seem to be the de-facto targets of the barrage.

The thing is, people LOVE to toss crap on the playing surface, and UC ( in collusion with TicketBastard ) has figured-out how to make them pay a premium for that rare privilege.

What a crock, in the name of "charity": UC/TM get their money, and the public pays twice.

The UC win over Buff State was not what the doctor ordered.
They played down to the level of Buff St.
The game was sloppy and the penalties were just ridiculous.
If this team wants to contend for the ECAC West let alone get a NCAA nod, they will have to play MUCH better than what I saw tonight.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Sloppy win, but I'll take it.

We started out great, had a great penalty kill and then just played down to their level the rest of the game. Absolutely atrocious.

Oswego lost tonight, so that's good news for Utica. We need to make many improvements before next Friday though when we pay a visit to Oswego. BIG game.

Utica should stay where they are in the rankings. A tie or loss tonight to Buffalo State would have moved us down for sure.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

How is an Oswego loss "great news" for a Utica fan or player? If anything it should be the worst kind of news to hear for you guys. You don't think the Lakers will come out of the gate hot on Friday?

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

A laker loss is bad news for Utica because it hurts their SOS...only a very tiny bit, but does hurt their SOS

I totally agree.
We needed the Lakers to be unbeaten in order to be "sleepwalking" in the game.
With a loss, dont think for a minute that they wont be fired up.
Ill tell you this, if UC plays like they did tonight, Oswego hangs 8 on UC.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

True, but Oswego's big game next weekend is not against the Pioneers....It is against the undefeated Hobart Statesmen.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Happily, Graff took it upon himself to muscle in the game-winner tonight... The contest could have ended a very, very bad tie for the Pioneers.

I didn't see the same game some of you apparently did.

Truly, UC didn't out-shoot Buff State by much, but they out-chanced them by a country mile, IMO. Utica carried the play pretty-much all game long, aside from a few shifts against BSU's top line. (That unit was pretty good.)

Utica's perceived shortcomings as a team this season are far too often a direct result of egregious miscues by a mere two guys; a couple of atrocious defensemen. ( I won't mention names, but they both wear the number 3 in some form. ) I've noticed that Heenan never seems to pair them up, even on partial changes.. They are both that bad.

Those two -unless they figure out how to clear the zone without setting up the attacking forwards with lovely assists- are going to be UC's Achilles heel against the better teams on the schedule.

I realize that UC is thin at D, but it's not going anywhere unless those two habitual offenders somehow develop some composure and judgment in their own end. ( Not holding my breath on that one... Oswego will feast on them next week, bet ya anything. )

They were gonna come out hot either way next week.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

I think a couple of you guys are being a little harsh towards Buffalo. They are far from a weakling (great goalie) and have played some very good, albeit inconsisent hockey. I thought they might even beat Utica which would not have surprised too many people. Buffalo has beaten Penn State and taken Oswego right to the wire so I don't think Utica played "down to their level" or were "atrocious".

Utica has beaten Amherst and ....um...ah....um....???

If you watched that game, minus 2 players for Buff St..the goalie and the the C, they were over matched.
UC is a good team and you are correct- Amherst and who?
We will see.
I would really like to see UC take Oswego out, but if the D plays like it did last night its going to be a rout.

Buff State is certainly not on the same level of Oswego/Plattsburgh, but it wasn't as bas as some would want to make it seem. As a neutral observer, Utica deffently had the upper hand. Just like Plattsburgh and Oswego has done in recent years, Utica let Buff State hang around. Had UC capitalized on a few early chances Buff State wouldn't have been around in the third. The Bessing tieing goal was a grit goal just like the UC game winner. One-on-Two and just outworked the Buff State D.

One thing I will say is, a lot of empty seats for 3800+.....

Three of the same teams Pittsburgh beat so far? One by the same score and one by a larger margin...and if you are good at math, that means one by a closer score, too. Utica 19 - Common opponents 4 vs Plattsburgh 17 - Common opponents 2.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

But Plattsburgh is a +63 with SOG while Utica is just +47 with an extra 3:46 played ;)

Good luck Friday, you're going to need it......on the bright side Utica does get to come home (I know of all places) and play Nichols....the 6-3-0 Bison are sure to a great game....

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

OK...Let's see where we all are after you play 2 against the Lakers and the Cards play Norwich and Elmira/Amherst. I just don't know how any of your teams expect to survive killing each other all season long in that conference!
