Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

But Plattsburgh is a +63 with SOG while Utica is just +47 with an extra 3:46 played ;)

Good luck Friday, you're going to need it......on the bright side Utica does get to come home (I know of all places) and play Nichols....the 6-3-0 Bison are sure to a great game....
Same to you (luck that is) in your Tournament at the end of the year. More common opponents coming your way! And, I have yet to hear another coach say that the Aud was the last place they wanted to bring their team, but they just had no other choice.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

OK...Let's see where we all are after you play 2 against the Lakers and the Cards play Norwich and Elmira/Amherst. I just don't know how any of your teams expect to survive killing each other all season long in that conference!
Will be an interesting set of games, Lakers against two top 10 ranked ECAC-W teams this weekend, UC against Lakers twice, and Plattsburgh against Norwich and Amherst (or Elmira........).

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Buff State is certainly not on the same level of Oswego/Plattsburgh, but it wasn't as bas as some would want to make it seem. As a neutral observer, Utica deffently had the upper hand. Just like Plattsburgh and Oswego has done in recent years, Utica let Buff State hang around. Had UC capitalized on a few early chances Buff State wouldn't have been around in the third. The Bessing tieing goal was a grit goal just like the UC game winner. One-on-Two and just outworked the Buff State D.

One thing I will say is, a lot of empty seats for 3800+.....

All good points, Champs...

That game should have been over in the first period, yet Buff didn't quit, and half the TBT-crowd was gone by the time the thing went to OT. ( Great hockey town, right? )

We went home and watched Platty-OSU afterward, and I'm not optimistic re: UC's chances in Oswego on the basis of what I saw.

OSU's forwards are so talented. They absolutely dominated the 3rd, had PSU running around in their own end down the stretch, and hit three posts in the last five minutes. It was a minor miracle that nothing went in for the Lakers during that span, which was a complete shooting-gallery in the PSU end.

Utica's only hope is to sit Olivieri and to negotiate with Platty to take Adams back. ( We'll throw in some teddy-bears! ) :p

Fishman, you know that the TBT game is not indicative of the regular season crowd.
Most of the audience was kids and young ones at that.
As a dad of young ones, I get if a kid gets antsy Im outta there.
SO lighten up on the Great Hockey town crap.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Geez, right about now we'd be happy to take Adams back !! With 3 D-men down, he'd play too!

Three..? Ouch! That explains the shaky play in the Platty end down the stretch. UC is only down two D-men, and the situation here is plenty dicey at that.

Un-bunch your panties FCS...

I've seen nearly every UC home game since the program's inception, and the crowd still wanders around during live play as if they were at a cocktail party. I was referring to that sort of thing as a barometer of fan interest in the game itself, as well as the afore-mentioned exodus of half the crowd during the tightly-contested third... There are maybe 2,000-2,500 actual hockey fans there on a good night, official "sellout" or not.

What made you think I was singling-out families with kids, anyway? I happily suffer the little children, just as Jesus instructed me to do, if for no other reason than they are too short to obstruct my view. ;)

Without knowing you i will make no assumptions, but if you are old enough to remember "old time hockey" at the Clinton arena and the aud, what so many refer back to Utica's hockey glory days- those evenings were events. Date nights and gathering places for old and young alike. We loved our hockey and also liked to socialize at the same time. So dont think for a minute that this fanbase is far different. Did we know a bit more about the game? Perhaps, but the fact remains that UC has filled a Niche and has filled a void that so many of us have been looking for when Lou took his toys and went to Albany.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

There is interest in bringing an AHL team back to Utica, the funds are there also. All I know is they are trying !

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

I am going way back here, but who were the Clinton Comets and what league were they in?

NYSAHL (1949–1949/50),
NYOHL (1950/51 – 1953/54),
EHL (1954/55 – 1972/73),
NAHL (1973/74 – 1976/77),
ACHL

I saw them in the later 70s,
then watched many forms of the Mohawk Valley Stars etal until the Devils came to town.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Got my tickets for the game Friday. Was only on hold for 35 minutes... Boy, I can see Oswego loves their hockey ;)

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Thanks, I grew up in Carthage and used to see recaps on WKTV in the 60s, but never saw them play. Our school mascot was also Comets(still is).

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

I.did not want to pay a "convenience" fee ;)

I love how we pay for the incompetence of real life ticket counter workers with online "Convenience" fees..... from a consumer perspective, they should do the online for free because they hire less people.

But, that's business.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Cost of ticket $5...ticketmaster fee $5...grand total $10. I played for the "Mohawk Valley Comets" after they moved from Clinton to Utica. It was just like the movie "Slapshot" in every way. Most of the players in the movie were from the Comets, Johnstown Jets, Binghamton Broom Dusters etc. You want stories...I have them.
