Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Mark my words when I say this.

These teams will meet again. That one is going to be a blood bath.

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Final UC 1 Hobart 0. GREAT GAME by both teams. A little bad blood in the hand shake line, but hay, it's hockey.

At least they shook hands, always a good sign;)
Hopefully there's a team out there that will make sure these two teams don't meet again this year ;)

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Ray leaves it all in the press box...with no color partner today he is working double duty - I just hope he doesn't have a stroke.....
First time I met Ray, a year ago in the fall, he showed up in my office asking if I was UCBadger. He had on a hockey jersey, long hair under a ball cap, black glasses with (and I am not making this up) tape on the nose piece! I thought, "How did one of the Hanson brothers from Slapshot figure out who I was?"

Re: Ouch!!!

Re: Ouch!!!

And what a game it was...56 minutes 0-0. UC goes ahead like Friday night this time with four minutes left...so what happens next ? UC gets a penalty with 2:30 left which allows Hobart to pull the goalie and skate six on four(like Friday). The aud was electric at this point going crazy every time the puck left UC's defensive zone. They held on...the funny thing is "either" team could have won both or lost both. I guess a split was deserving. What a weekend of hockey by two good teams !!!

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Boy, I hope the voters move Utica up one spot or there will be no living with them.:D

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

I must have missed the message that said "ONLY UTICA FANS ARE ALLOWED TO TALK ABOUT UTICA IN THIS BOARD, WHICH IS OWNED BY UTICA!! EVERYONE ELSE GO AWAY!!"

Seriously. Stop. You wonder why you have so many non-Utica fans post here? Have you seen some of the stuff that's posted? It's comical how ridiculous some of these posts are. You guys win and all some of you talk about is how you're getting shafted in an insignificant poll. You lose a hard fought game in OT to a higher ranked team and some are talking about how the NCAA selection committee will shaft you...because the USCHO poll has?? Seriously??

This is not "your home." You are NOT "our hosts." This is a public message board. You want it to be your home? Start your own exclusive club and sent exclusive invitations. Until then, stop complaining about "the invaders" and deal with it.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

This is a thread created by UC followers for the sake of discussing this team, OK..? If you don't understand that much, you're as clueless as your posts suggest you are.

There are many others like it for many other teams, even Oswego, I would imagine. (I don't know that for a fact, because I have better things to do than to troll other team threads and "enlighten" their posters... Apparently, you don't.) The OSU crew on here doesn't seem to be especially gifted in an intellectual sense, or possessed of even a modicum of common courtesy; perhaps your boundless spare time would be better-spent there, working on that?

While this is not an exclusive forum, my question is: what compels you pinheads to come here just to pick nits? (That was a rhetorical question; don't bother to cook-up an answer to it. Thank you.) Everyone enjoys an interesting post, no matter the source of it, but trolls are trolls, and we all know one when we see one.

Tell ya what: just create a "Utica Sucks" thread, and go there, where all your childish sniping will fall on like-minded ears. Then, everybody's happy... You can all sit around in a circle and do what you do, and we can talk about hockey, here.

I had the live stats on at work, and I felt a *little* concern when Peterson took that late penalty... (Was it a good call, IYO?)

Anyhoo, UC survived it, and moved back into #1 in the KRACH. If they win just once in each of the last two remaining weekends, they'll have taken the season-series from every W opponent, which is quite a feat.

I agree: there is essentially no difference between HC and UC. They are pretty-much mirror images of each other. Each of the three contests was decided by one goal, and could have easily gone either way... (It's not as though anyone won 6-0, or something. ;))

Only one remaining game at home. I'll be in Boston all week, but I plan on doing a mad dash to see it on Friday night, and maybe even head to Rochester on Saturday to see Naz's barn.

What a fun season this has been!

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

I take it you didn't read my previous post? #666.
And THANK YOU for your support of the Domes, seriously! One of the parents from Naz. sat in front of me last night and had nothing but good things to say about the Domes, the atmosphere, that "Old Barn" feeling. He said he'd love coming here, and has three more years to do so.

OK, my bad, but at least we agree on one point. :D

I have never spoken to any parents or fans who didn't love The Domes. That place is my favorite venue ever, and I've been to a lot of glossy "high-end" D-1 arenas.

The atmosphere there is surreal; it feels like you're in a series of caverns. That alone must intimidate visiting teams. Furthermore, the fans are into the game and the concessions are way above average, which is important in getting The Warden on-board in making the 3-4 hour drive from here.

Moving Elmira to a more modern arena is about attendance, I would guess..? Thing is, I think that EC would lose some home-ice advantage in the process, and there's no guarantee that more people would show up.

I would prefer that they play in The Domes, at least until I get too old to drive down there for hockey games. If there's another facility like it anywhere in the country, I haven't heard of it.

I believe it was a "slash" but I didn't see it. To call a minor penalty in a game like that was pretty poor(2:30 left) in my opinion.

BTW...Broadwater is excellent but noone gives Therrien much credit. He is also playing tremendously and is a key factor in these games.

I was noticing Slowikowski's skates last night, they're like snowshoes. must be like size sixteen, but good for blocking passes.

It would be fitting if they met for the ECAC/W championship game, but I agree with the other posters. I don't know if my heart can take another one of these. Just a great weekend of hockey at the Aud. Both teams went balls to the wall for both games. 1-0 games are many times boring afairs with a lot of traps and neither team wanting to make a mistake. In other words, slow paced snooze fests. This was anything but. The speed both teams have from top to bottom is something. I'd give the edge to UC in that that department (not by much) and maybe give a small edge to Hobart in the skill department. The most dangerous game for UC now is the next one. I say that because in any team sport after a huge win against a great team it's natural to let up a little. That's probably more true when you play a team you're "suppose" to beat. That being said I still think this years team isn't going to fall into that mode. Hope I'm right. Way to go boys. Keep it up.

You got that right; Nick has been a brick-wall all year, and shutting-out a team as skilled as Hobart must have been something to behold.

Broadwater is a great D-3 goalie in his his own right, but Thierrien has been Utica's MVP all year... They wouldn't be where they are without him.

But where has Santiago been..? The only game that UC has skated it's A-team all year was when Oswego was here.

I think that UC will keep it up -everyone on that team works hard- but I was alarmed when I saw them sink behind their own blue-line on Friday, after they took the lead with 6:24 remaining... That was recipe for disaster, and that disaster happened with 8 seconds to go.

I say: keep attacking. Speed kills, and Utica has great team speed. I haven't seen any team this year that can match it, so why not utilize that advantage, and keep the puck in the attacking zone? (It's hard for the opposition to score from 180' away.)

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season

Got out of Boston tonight ahead of the dreaded "Nemo". There have been plenty of games postponed around there, but it appears that Naz is planning to make the trip here tomorrow... (We Upstaters aren't afraid of a little snow, right..? But I did read that M'ville postponed their women's game, the little sissies.)

I expect Naz to show-up in every sense of the expression. Their top-line is very good, and the rest of the team isn't too far behind. They'll be loose and looking to shock the top D-3 team in the country (oops, I meant the #8 team in the country). It's a classic trap-game, and UC better not take it lightly; Naz isn't a terrible team, but losing to them would be a terrible loss for Utica... Yet, if the Pioneers get 4 points this weekend, next weekend in Purchase will feel like a couple of pick-up games.

If the local forecast holds true, we'll be heading to Rochester for an over-nighter on Saturday, too. Anyone here ever been there to see a game?

Do you really think no one has ever been there? Of course they have spectators - do you also post as hawk?

PS - in case you make it.
