Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

It's plain and simple...Wisco has "nine" D1 transfers..."three" first team All Americans icluding the goalie !! Almost not fair !

I believe its "seven"...in all fairness tho, McCabe and Donnellan are actually from Eau Claire.

Jack Callahan SO D Quinnipiac (2011-12)
Devin Mantha SR F Miami (2010-11)
Mark Pustin JR F Alaska Anchorage (2011-12)
Daniel Olszewski JR F Denver (2011-12)
Drew Darwitz SR D Alaska Anchorage (2010-11)
Andrew McCabe SR F Nebraska Omaha (2009-10)
David Donnellan JR D W0estern Michigan (2010-11)

UWEC loses nearly 60% of their goals next year alone and 63% of their PP goals. Might want to hope for a few more transfers..

Now you know how we felt in the SUNYAC with the Oswego situation....fun isn't it....

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

The weekend's results were just three more games of data to process in an objective manner, and Utica still comes out on top in the East in that regard.

As far as the FF went, Eau-Claire was clearly the best team in Placid... A very complete squad.

I have no complaints regarding any of the outcomes; the better team won every game, IMO.

The Pioneers fans can now chant we are number 3 or 4 and no one will really care.:D

Because EC can recruit, it's "not fair?" Utica had 7 Canadians, I think that equals it out...Not to mention the game was played what, 3 hours away?

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

We had such a great season. Wisconsin Eau-Claire was just destined to win it. And I'm okay with that.

Hey...it could of been worse... Oswego could of won ;)

Re: Utica College Pioneers 2012-13 Season (Part Two)

At the time it seemed like Norwich was the better team, I mean their record showed that right? Seemed more probable that Norwich was going to win..

...And to answer your question just look at the picture below... Oswego right? ;)

The weekend's results were just three more games of data to process in an objective manner, and Utica still comes out on top in the East in that regard.

This weekend's games were not "data", they were a benchmark at where the teams are at this part (the most important part), of the season. If you can look at the results of this weekend objectively (or what you may have seen with your own eyes as many of us did) and tell me that Utica was the best team in the East then there is no reasoning with you. I watched the games (quarter finals too) and can say that as much as WEC was the best team, Utica performed the worst of the four.

If we were to let computers decide champions, then maybe, just maybe Utica would be the best in the East. Facts are when it COUNTED MOST, the Pioneers could not perform under pressure. With an opportunity to win an outright regular season title, they were tied by Manhattanville. With the #1 seed in their conference tourney, they bowed out early on home ice to the #4 seed. They did win their quarterfinal game at home in the NCAA, which is certainly a significant accomplishment, but on the biggest stage they laid an egg a week later.

You have hung your hat all year on one regular season game, a 6-0 thrashing of Oswego (maybe two as Utica beat them twice). It is too bad that all those games were, were two of 25 regular season games that in the grand scheme of things made Utica the #2 seed in the East (behind Norwich) and made Oswego the #4.

Utica had a fantastic year, but to put it in perspective, at the end of the day:

Utica won a regular season championship (Congratulations, no small feat)
Utica lost in their conference semi-finals
Utica received the #2 seed in the East from the NCAA
Utica won an NCAA QF game on home ice (home ice which they earned by virtue of their great regular season)
Utica lost to an excellent WEC squad in the Frozen Four

This is a season that has been had numerous times by several teams in the East. I understand the enthusiasm you have this being your first (of possible many to come) but the chest thumping needs to stop. UTICA DID NOT HAVE THE BEST SEASON IN THE EAST. Two H2H losses aside, another team in the East won their conference outright, won their conference tourney, and made it further than Utica in the NCAA's. I would take filling the trophy case with two trophies, and hanging a NCAA Runner Up (if my school did this sort of thing:() over what Utica accomplished this year (including the H2H victories) every time.

My apologies to all of the sane, reasonable, respectful, and great Utica posters on this board. This post is directed to one person and one person only (maybe two with PIO1's shot regarding Oz and Norwich earlier in the week:)).

Best of luck next year, I do wish Utica sustained success. They were a lot of fun to follow this year (save most of your late night posts).

Another first for Utica this year, 93GreatLaker.....Our season thread closed here at the boards of USCHO! :D

And to think that last year was either just the first or second UC season thread.

Okay, lets get this straight.

First of all, I understand what you're saying in regards to Utica's "magnificent" season we're all calling it. However, my "shot" at Oswego all the Laker fans on here are crying about, was not actually a "shot" at all to the team. So ya'll can stop crying over it. I was simply asking a legitimate question based upon, record, SOS, etc.. I really did not think Norwich would lose to Oswego.. in fact I don't think many people at all thought it was THAT far-fetched for Norwich to beat Oswego.. in fact, my general consensus among fans leading up to the game was the exact opposite. Therefore I made my comment and said what I said. My lord, some of you people need to re-read what I say sometimes.

The vibe I generally got from the board before the game was that it would be a very even game. No one was really expecting a blowout from one team or the other. That being said I don't think what you said was a slight against Oswego at all, I think it was your opinion and your entitled to your opinion without getting jumped on.

My comment toward you was lighthearted, hence the emote. But since you bring it up. I did read what you wrote, you could not see that a team that was capable of winning their conference, winning their conference tourney, winning an NCAA QF game on the road, etc could beat Norwich. While many people may have agreed that Norwich would win the game, they were at least smart enough to be able to SEE a scenario in which the Lakers could prevail.

Do we really think Oswego is going to beat Norwich? I just can't see it.
