Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

Re: Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

Fishman, I sat in my Comets season ticket seats last night and enjoyed the UC game very much.
The energy was amazing and the crowd was energized.
Don't think for a moment tho that there will be only 800 ppl at Comets games.
While they may not draw 3500 every night, remember that UC only has a limited number of home games.
Your disdain for the Comets is befuddling as it seems that you are a real hockey fan.
The two can coexist, quite frankly very well.
Why the negativity?
Ive been in this town for a long time and I get being gun shy, but you seem to be a typical hater.

I see UC was 0-8 on the PP and Elmira was 3-7 Special teams made it close, UC better fix that.

I said 800 fewer people than the early sell-outs, Fisher, as in: the novelty already seems to be wearing-off a tad. I'm no hater, either, I just don't think there's any plausible reason to believe that Vancouver will be here long-term.

I've said a bunch of times that I'm all for the Comets and the business they bring downtown, as long as they don't displace UC from the Aud. Thus far, Vancouver has been very deferential in that respect, but there is plenty of uncertainty going forward.

If UC continues to be the de-facto primary tenant with first-dibs on scheduling, I hope the AHL is a permanent fixture in Utica. Thing is, the terms of the Comets' lease vis-a-vis that issue appears to be top-secret, despite the fact that the public essentially owns The Aud.

(FWIW, I ran into a friend of mine tonight with solid Aud connections who's going to dig for details; maybe I'll have some pithier hearsay to post on here after the Morrisville game.)

%#cK!=g Hobart..!

I looked up as soon as the ref pointed to the GWG, and the clock showed 0.00. Hard to say if the puck was in on time or not; the zebras huddled for several minutes but didn't look at a replay. (Not even sure if they have that option at the D-3 level.)

UC probably deserved a better fate. They carried the last 10 minutes of a tight game, but got a little complacent in the waning seconds. When they settled for an own-zone faceoff with 7.8 on the clock, I felt a disaster coming on, and Nicky seemed to be the only one in the building who didn't see the puck laying in the low crease.

Oh well, that's hockey... But if these first three games are any indication, the W is going to be another bloodbath this year, and Utica will be obliged to compete hard during every second of every game if they're to have any hope of repeating as conference champs.

Any word on Zappia? I don't think he returned, did he? Heard his name all night and remember him from last season - solid defenseman for sure.

Hate to see a guy leave a game like that....hoping that injury didn't end his season.

Stop talking about the Comets and talk about pertinent UC facts. Tired of it.

Hard to say if it was in on time. I think I heard the time of the goal was 19:58 on the PA, but it's still hard to understand what they say. They did play a good 3rd period, but half the 1st and most of the 2nd belonged to the visitors. Hobart is very strong on the puck and I think UC has a little more speed. Either way, it was a fun game to watch and I agree that they can't take a deep breath until after the horn sounds.

Re: Utica College Pioneers '13-'14 = Lewiston or Bust

We hadn't had dinner so we left after two periods(many beers though). I was very disappointed with UC after two. Even thought the shots were even I thought Hobart was the better team last night. I don't know how UC looked in the third . UC couldn't get out of their own end, I didn't see two passes in a row breaking out, it was all bang the puck off the boards and try to create chances...wasn't working. Either UC is not as good as I hoped or Hobart was better than I thought they'd be. Hobart lost Broadwater their All American goalie too. One thing for sure, the ECAC West is very tough , even Nazareth is playing good hockey. You better be ready to play every weekend, I do know that. Should be a very interesting year.

I thought Neumann were the conference champs last season?

You're right- Neumann beat M'ville for the conference championship last year.
Utica was the #1 seed for the ECAC-W postseason tourney (they were tied with Hobart for points, but won the tie breaker by owning the H2H matchup 2-1).

He came back for a shift early in the 3rd. At that point, he was promptly beaten inside his own blue-line on a Hobart rush, and hauled his man down, resulting in a penalty. He definitely didn't look to be 100%, but he didn't seem seriously injured, either.
