Utica College 2010-11

Re: Utica College 2010-11

Interesting that you consider Utica "in" no matter what-and I hope you're right about that-but on what do you base that opinion?

I never said "in" no matter what. If there are no upset conference tournaments, despite possible losses to Neumann and Elmira, they still are probably one of the top teams for Pool C consideration. I'd think they'd get a bid because they have a great SOS and may have a decent record versus ranked opponents. I was implying that since there's not a ton of top-tier teams, Utica's losses may not be that crippling to their NCAA chances. That being said, when the rankings come out later today, we'll see exactly where they line up because if they're lower than 5th (which it seems like they won't be), I think they'd need to win at least 2 more games to be on a good footing for a Pool C bid.

Depending on what happens in other conferences, if they lose to Elmira and Neumann then I think they get a bid. There's just not a lot of teams that are playing all that well right now.

If Neumann beats Elmira this week then beats Utica in the playoffs should Neuman be considered over UC? Having beat them 3 times in the last couple weeks? Utica can get in but they probably need to win of the these games to ensure it.

If Neumann wins out they could end up ahead of Utica but I dont see that happening. I think Utica still needs one win to get in. Unless upsets happen in the conference tournaments. If your a Utica fan hope teams like Oswego and St Norbert win there tournament championships. If one or both of those teams dont win you could see Utica missing out.

I of course am assuming and hoping EC wins out and wins the ECAC West Tournament and gets the Pool B and #2 in the east.
But if Utica wins the ECAC West Tournament I feel they will get in regardless of anything else.

Interesting to see that all five ECAC-W teams are in the Krach top-ten,with EC and UC 2nd and 3rd,respectively.

I'm hopeful that The Gestapo will take note of the strength of that conference as they hand out bids for the post-season.Not gonna hold my breath on that one,tough...

(Manhattanville will very likely stay home, for instance, and I'll bet ya that they will stack up very favorably against at least a couple of teams that get in....Good ole D-3,right?)

The Krach means nothing as far as the NCAA is concerned - in addition, with only 1 Pool B and 3 Pool C bids, we can guarantee that at least one ECAC W team will be left out. Other conferences also have teams that will make very good cases for the available Pool C bids.

I dont think the ECAC West will get more than two teams in this year. They might given all the losses everyone else has as well. However, I just don't see it. Especially with one of the Pool C bids almost guaranteed to go to the West.

Agreed, the KRACH means nothing in D-3,or in D-1,for that matter, despite that statistician-types often seem to cite it as the best yardstick available for rating college hockey teams.I just thought that it was interesting to look at it at this juncture.

I love to complain about the apparent provincialism in the D-3 selection process,yes...But I have to concede that it's very hard to employ an objective comparison on a national basis, when East and West so rarely play each other in the RS.Never the twain shall meet,I suppose.

Tell ya what, though,it's not so difficult to divine who's deserving within a Region, and it's hard to argue against including 3-4 ECAC-W teams,in that context. There has been a shift in the balance of power in the past few years that has gone unacknowledged,IMO.

The lack of national play is in response to the fact that the NCAA excludes games outside of the region from its calculations. The games can be included as part of the secondary criteria, but not as primary criteria. What is somewhat absurd in that regard is that Adrian (a West team) has traveled farther to play in-region games that count (against St. John's) than it had to travel to play games that didn't count (against Buffalo State).

As for the strength of the ECAC West, that's not new - ECAC West followers have been advocating that position since the USCHO era began. It's all RIT's fault

Unacknowledged?

As I pointed out to you in a different thread a few weeks back. The ECAC-W has received 3 bids 3 times in the last five years. Hardly Unacknowledged.

Re: Utica College 2010-11

A win against Elmira would be huge irregardless of Friday night's game. UC will be more rested and a hopefully sold out crowd will help. Maybe Elmira will shoot their wad against Neumann Fri night...let's hope. A playoff game home next weekend would be sweet. Go Pios !!!

Is the championship game the next night(Saturday) or the next weekend ? I'm assuming it's back to back games Fri and Sat nights ?

Unfortunately they did away with the final four format a few years ago. I liked it better that way and it made it more of a weekend event. However, with the lack of teams that might have been part of the reason. Plus the coaches that advanced to the finals probably liked the extra rest and entire week to game plan for the finals rather than less than 24 hours.
