Utica College 2010-11

Re: Utica College 2010-11

Unacknowledged?

As I pointed out to you in a different thread a few weeks back. The ECAC-W has received 3 bids 3 times in the last five years. Hardly Unacknowledged.

"Under-acknowledged",I should have said...That league is that good,IMO.

:)

Actually, if you had followed the D3 board as long as some of us, you might say "over-acknowledged." You are merely echoing the cries of past posters about the "dominance" of the ECAC-W. This will soon be followed by complaints of "not so" from your New York brethern who follow the SUNYAC. ...As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be ...

I also realize that you don't have the history of some of these eternal D3 discussions

Re: Utica College 2010-11

I am pretty new to D3 and am only familiar really with New York State teams, so I can't comment on strengths of other divisions. I do notice however that the five teams in the ECACW do however occupy the #1,2,3,4 and 6 positions for SOS defined by the KRACH method. I would assume that it is a very strong league...has to be.

SUNYAC strong also, can't comment on the west, just don't know enough.

A lot of that has to do with good teams playing each other three times...take out their conf games and what's their SOS then.....

Actually, none of it has to do with them all playing each other. Conference games are always going to be .500 for SOS, which would make the non-conference games very difficult for the ECAC West this season.

Re: Utica College 2010-11

I don't understand that Matt...what do you mean they're always .500 ??

Re: Utica College 2010-11

So if their were no out of league games their SOS would be bad at .500, I guess. So teams that don't play many OOC games (think Adrian is one) has a bad SOS even if the league is strong ??

So why don't MCHA teams play more OOC games ?? Money ?? They only play about five ooc games. Adrian and MSOE get hurt in that respect ??

They don't get hurt by not playing many OOC games. They get hurt because when their conference opponents DO play OOC games, they tend to lose. If you're beating up on your conference opponents (which you obviously want to do, to boost your WIN%), you need for THEM to win their OOC games in order to balance out your wins and boost you OWP. And you need them to do it against teams with decent WIN%, in order to boost your OOP.

The biggest knock against the ECAC West is that the teams seem to always poop out in the NCAA Tournament and can't win the big one. After all the great years of RIT, Manhattanville, Elmira, Hobart in the 90's and 2000's etc...Neumann is the first one to actually go all the way.

Yes, I realize RIT won in 1986 or something like that. But, you get my point. :)

Re: Utica College 2010-11

Sooo...The ECACW is a weak conference today because last year's National Champions were Neumann but not many before that ??? Makes no sense.

Must be some of this D3 mentality that I don't understand.

But Derek, that is like saying the Big 10 is weak in football because they seldom get teams into the nation championship game and when they do that team gets embarrassed by some southern team...........oh, wait..........never mind.

Big 10 Football sucks.

Nobody is saying they are weak. What is being said is that there has been a lot, and I mean a lot of discussion on these boards about how strong the ECAC W is. It is a familiar theme, but Derek is saying if you count the number of D3 national championships coming from the ECAC W, the numbers don't stack up.

We also hear the same rallying cry from fans of the NCHA, with a little more NCAA success to back it up. Probably right now the NCHA and the ECAC W are the two strongest conferences. However, at least at the top, the SUNYAC, ECAC East, and NESCAC are right there.

Re: Utica College 2010-11

(I think it's pretty clear which league is the strongest top-to-bottom this year....So back on topic!)

Neumann upsetting EC in Elmira tonight was neither what I expected nor what I desired. It just doesn't work at all for Utica, who's gonna be traveling in any case next weekend.

Also, they have a "one of those choices where you're pretty-much screwed no matter what happens" deals ahead of them.(I forget what they officially call that...Perhaps somebody will help me out.)

To wit,Utica has to beat EC,in order to have the dubious privilege of going to The Domes next weekend,to try to beat them again...(Mighty tall order.)Or,they could lose tomorrow, then they get to travel 6 hours to beautiful Aston,PA,to receive another likely fanny-spanking at Ice Works.

Life in this league is as rough as a cob.Home-ice in the ECAC-West is essential in the post season, since it's clearly the toughest D-3 league in our fair country, and probably in the entire world.

Re: Utica College 2010-11

I'm pretty sure no matter what happens tonight UC will be traveling to Iceworks to play Neumann and Elmira will host the winner of Wednesdays play in game.
However tonights game is still big for both teams as a loss here and in the ecac w semis might knock either team from a pool b or c bid.
