Utica College 2010-11

Re: Utica College 2010-11

UC got its collective fanny spanked tonight, ergo, tomorrow night's game is huge...Utica could really use a point or two.

I'd rather be where UC is right now than I would be NC,but absolutely nothing is settled re: home ice.And home ice is a very big deal.

A Utica win seals the deal;anything else, and it's gonna be a "Who can beat Elmira?" contest coming up next weekend.(I think that Neumann wins the tie-breaker,by dint of the HTH results,no matter what happens tomorrow. They are 2-0 v. Utica so far.)

Fun stuff!

Re: Utica College 2010-11

Game Two goes to NC,3-1 with an ENG.If the Knights win or tie at Elmira on Friday,UC will travel for their semi-final game...But if NC loses,Utica has merely to beat EC on Saturday in The Aud.

No problem! ;)

Re: Utica College 2010-11

If NU beats EC Friday it renders Saturday's game moot and that would royally suck for attendance and the atmosphere at the Aud. I can't believe UC couldn't get a point at NU this weekend. Watched both games on Fasthockey and it was painful...

Re: Utica College 2010-11

UC looked bad,huh?

SOG were pretty even, but NC has been a tough out at home in recent years.Too bad Utica let them off the hook at The Aud earlier this season.(That was a gift.A win there, and this whole weekend is moot re: home ice.)

Please note that even a sister-kisser at EC gives Neumann a home game for the first round, becuse the tie-breaker favors the Knights.BUT,it's easier to beat EC at home than it is in The Domes...Saturday's game in Utica could be huge.

And people are gonna show up anyway, because at least 50% don't even watch the game...They're just in attendance for the sake of the beer and the opportunity to natter away endlessly with each other.(When they aren't walking/standing around during live pucks, obstructing your view...Some "hockey town"!)

Correct me if I'm wrong;) But EC has secured home ice throughout the playoffs making the last two games meaningful only to NC & UC.

Elmira has indeed secured home ice. Utica can only tie Elmira in points and regardless, the Eagles hold the tie breaker having won two games already against the Pioneers.

The road to the ECAC W will once again run through the Domes. However, the last three years, it hasn't been the home team winning the trophy.

Re: Utica College 2010-11

Utica can't tie Elmira, only one game left. Have to hope Elmira beats Neumann Fri night and then beat Elmira Saturday night to get a home playoff game. What are UC's chances at an NCAA berth now...did they blow it ?

Its very likely Utica will get at minimum a Pool C spot. They could even get the Pool B if they win out. I think Elmira is overdue and will finally win the ECAC West Championship and get the Pool B. If that happens Elmira will likely host a home Play in Game and Utica could also host a First round Play in Game.

Don't some kind of pre NCAA bids come out this week...on another thread I thought I read that ?

Last Tuesday the NCAA regional ranking committees created their first iteration of the NCAA DIII Regional Rankings. That first one (as well the last one, which is actually used in tournament bid allocation and seeding) is not released to the public. This Tuesday, and the tuesdays between now and the end of conference championships, we will actually see what the official rankings look like to date. It's about as close as we get to a glimpse into the Smoke-Filled Room that is the NCAA DIII hockey Championship Committee.

Re: Utica College 2010-11

I know I read it somewhere and I know it wasn't here but, since I am here, when is the first play-in game? If I remeber correctly, it's the wed. Mar. 9th?? I have to request vacation day asap.

It's either going to be Tuesday or Wednesday.

Not trying to Bash on Utica, but WHAT IF: They loose to Elmira, go on to loose to Neumann in the playoffs, do they still get an NCAA bid?

Depending on what happens in other conferences, if they lose to Elmira and Neumann then I think they get a bid. There's just not a lot of teams that are playing all that well right now.

Depends on how teams that rank ahead of them fare in their conference tournaments. If there are too many upsets borderline pool C candidates get squeezed out. If enough happen, even strong Pool C candidates get left out.

Interesting that you consider Utica "in" no matter what-and I hope you're right about that-but on what do you base that opinion?

IMO,UC is certainly among the 11 best D-3 teams in the nation,on the paper available to the public...Question is:does the selection Gang of Four employ that same document as a guide when they actually choose the field?

Some of you guys know much more about the "process" than you care to admit...Spill your guts, already!

I meant painful watching them get swept. UC played tough but the momentum disappeared for long periods. Smith singlehandedly kept them in the game Saturday when NU outshot UC 13-2 in the third before locking UC out with the ENG. Funny, all 10 goals scored in both games were at the same end of the ice. Of course at the end NU attacked for 4 of the 6 periods...
