btw regarding "resting on his laurels" there is this:

The 1960s group has had 1.7 billion Spotify streams this year so far. The age-group streaming the music is not the baby boomers that fueled Beatlemania, but rather, two generations removed, including many teenagers.

The figures prove the enduring appeal of the still-fresh songs and ensure that the money-machine of the most successful musical act in history will continue.

Pre-orders mean that the Abbey Road reissue, which came out on September 26, will surely follow the chart-topping success of the 50[SUP]th[/SUP]-anniversary reissues of The Beatles (White Album) last year and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in 2017.

Spotify research shows that of the 1.7 billion streams, 18- to 24-year-olds account for more than 30% of Beatles listening this year, the largest share among all demographics. After that, 25- to 29-year-olds come in next, with more than 17% of the Beatles listening.

Now of course he's not as good as he was when he was 26 or even 36. Who would be? But is that a reason to hate him or disparage him? Does that invalidate the first 20 years of his work? Que sera sera.

Never said it did. Never said I hated him. Why is it so hard for you to admit that most of the stuff he's done over the last 40 years is crap? Granted, if I was worth a billion dollars, and could churn out songs as easy as blowing my nose, I'd probably be coasting too.

Note that it's not his recent works that those 18-24 year olds are downloading.

The only thing you need to do to get millions of people screaming like a scalded baby is say you, personally, find the Beatles meh.

That phenomenon holds for other, smaller groups, but I can't think of a larger one.

It has nothing to do with the Beatles. It's the psychology of marketing.

Also: who the fuck is J. Cole?

I actually kinda prefer Wings to the Beatles. Personally, I'm just burned out on all that golden age of rock, classic rock stuff. Just heard it too much.

As for your link, there's only like three of those I can say with any certainty that I've heard one of their songs. Then again, I'm old, and not their demographic.

This. Every instant of every day from the age of 10 (1973) until I just snapped the dial off on the last of it that I enjoyed (The Who, circa 1988). Fifteen years of being force-fed like a goose will make *anything* taste like sh-t. Many people my age have classic rock PTSD.

If that were true he wouldn't have 5 albums in the top 15 in the past decade. I just presented data that the younger generations are still checking out their music.

Whatever you and Kep have at it.

Checking out the Beatles. They ain't checking out his solo stuff. That's the old gray hairs like me and Kep still buying that crap.

Again, listen to Find My Way and tell me with a straight face that's a good song. Sounds like it was written by a five year old.

Isn't it on you for always tuning in to classic rock stations? I was a young adult during those years, and I didn't listen to Beatles music much.

Me? Crank up the Barry Manilow. Yeah!

No, it was ubiquitous and I was rarely in situations in which I could control the local noise pollution. To a large extent the entire pasture smells like the cows around you, and their patties were warmed over 60s (The Dead, Dylan, Janis, Doors, CCR), the steel wheelchair tour (Beatles, Who, Stones), alt before there was alt (Zappa, Bowie, Yes, Rush, Genesis), LOUD NOISES!!! (Motorhead, Sabbath, KISS, Zep, Deep Purple), and easy listening (Elton, BeeGees, Fleetwood Mac, The Two Somnambulist James (Taylor and Brown), and no not the Eagles man I hate the fucking Eagles).

Of those, only the first two sets were in such constant rotation at every party, car trip, hang out that they became unlistenable. None of the rest are irrevocably spoiled. I can still listen to the better stuff with enjoyment.

Listening to WCLZ on the ride back from Vactionland to Massholia. I'm not necessarily their demographic, but boy, their playlist is outstanding and incredibly broad. Heard Lord Huron "Mine Forever" and can't stop going back to it. Rockabilly melded with surf rock, a dash of Chris Isaak. Nice and mellow late in the evening.
