USCHO Music Thread: We All Have A Crush On Shirley Manson

Presumably totally inebriated?

Full on blasted. They swore a couple times as well and it was aired live so there is that.

The story of how they even got on despite their reputation (great band but live they could self-destruct) is funny. I think the Pointer Sisters were set to perform and cancelled the day before. The SNL musical director at the time was GE Smith and he was a huge fan so he convinced the powers that be to let them on.

Rolling Stone (when it still mattered) dubbed them, "the best band that never was" or something like that.

Completely and totally. Turned their amps up, swore, trashed hotel room, the whole nine. Even so I'm pretty surprised they were banned. It was the 80s, and they're a rock band. Must not have kissed the ring enough.

Oh, they were trashed. Even invited Harry Dean into their dressing room for a few belts, until a show staffer found him and wrestled him out of there before too much damage was done.

I just love the look on Bob's face at the end, where he just casually tosses his guitar over his shoulder and then steps aside, and waves his arm like he's presenting the showcase on The Price is Right.

If you follow a link in the text accompanying the original video, it takes you to a Rolling Stone excerpt from the book Trouble Boys that details the whole event.

I'm halfway through watching Trilogy which is The Cure playing in concert Pornography, Disintegration and Bloodlowers in succession and I'm reminded of the brilliance.

A hit, a very palpable hit.

You would play upon me; you would seem to know
my stops; you would pluck out the heart of my
mystery; you would sound me from my lowest note to
the top of my compass: and there is much music,
excellent voice, in this little organ*; yet cannot
you make it speak. 'Sblood, do you think I am
easier to be played on than a pipe? Call me what
instrument you will, though you can fret me, yet you
cannot play upon me.

* Hurr hurr.

Those were two wicked good posts, Kepler.

And hurr hurr reads in a larger font than it is typed in.

Cartman was so right about hippies.

Can we please flush the Sixties irrevocably down the memory hole, now? Second-worst decade of the 20th century, and that includes the two wars.
