I stumbled upon a VH1 sponsored reunion of A Flock Of Seagulls from a handful of years ago. Yeah, yeah I know. I never bought any of their records even though their timing was completely in my wheelhouse. But I can't deny they made it into the stratosphere until they imploded, and Space Age Love Song is 100% legit.

They're funny. I love that they learned their instruments while on tour.

I always thought they were great fun and hilarious. Talk about a band made up completely by their label. Eat your heart out, Malcolm McLaren.

I don't believe that is true. The teenage guitarist Paul Reynolds was legit and they practiced for nearly two years before they released their first single. Now for all I know they honed themselves on tour but even though 2 of them were previously hairdressers they knew how to write and play.

The story I have heard is the core band was okay, but the label shook up their lineup to get a boy band vibe before they hit the tour. The new guys had nice hair and zero musical skills.

But I legitimately love the story; not ironically. Groups like AFS are about the experience of seeing them; the music barely matters -- it's a loss leader. So yes by all means throw guys out there who don't know anything. It doesn't matter. The panty wetters are going to be shrieking so hard nobody can hear you anyway.

Are we talking the same Flock of Seagulls?

Not a pretty band.

I didn't care for them, but I do admit, Space Age Love Song is a wonderful song. Not just of the 80's.

It was a tough decade. We all had PTSD from the Teflon President. We could not imagine the joke of the decade would go on to become the Typhoid President.

Two brothers started the band in the space above the shop where the lead singer was a hairdresser and added another on bass. The original guitarist was replaced a few months later by Paul Reynolds who was only about 17 at the time. None of them are pretty enough to even be a "boy band".

btw this is not a hard argument from me - I was more fascinated by the story but I don't think this was a Monkees or even NKOTB type deal

btw - goddamit Eddie Van Halen RIP.

Finally checking out Lady Gaga's new album. Chromatica is miles ahead of Artpop and Joanne, and would put it ahead of Born This Way.

Prior to transition: "Why is Amazon recommending Meghan Trainor? Can you recommend good music?"

2+ years into transition: Dances to "Me Too" and "All About That Bass"
