Re: USCHO Music Thread: Less Talk, More Rock

Listened to the soundtrack for Singles for the first time in ages.
The Wilson sisters slay that Zeppelin tune. Everyone on top of their game. Smashing Pumpkins still at their peak, Paul Westerbrg writing insanely great pop tunes and Chris Cornell wails on Birth Ritual and dials it back for a killer solo song.

Which leads me to Mother Love Bone. The song is good but it led me to listening to their record which, ugh. Not very good. Just sort of bland rock music.

My new car has HD radio capability, and for those in Denver 93.3 has a sister HD channel called Punk Tacos.

And it's a good one. Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Descendents, Black Flag, Offspring, Bad Religion, Social Distortion, with the occasional ska and '00s-'10s EA racing game screamo mixed in.

It just fits my new car so well too!

I like MLB just fine, but they weren't for everyone. Definitely not the "grunge" sound Sub Pop was trying to popularize. More in the Faster Pussycat/Salty Dog division of hair bands that were quickly killed off two years later.

"Seasons" is a perfect acoustic track though. That's a Top 5 CC song for me, and he had a bunch of great ones that make it hard to pick just five.

LCD Soundsytem - Call the Police. Kind of a slow build but once it gets going. They also play it in this full set.

Also Spiritualized Live at Radio City. Their Live at the Royal Albert Hall is also fantastic but there's no video for the full show only audio.

The Current (MPLS) is going to video livestream Gogol Bordello's show tonight right about now-ish, on The Current's website.

Listening to Puscifer lately. They came up as a suggested band based on my listening preferences (one of those Daily Mix lists from Spotify). I never got into Tool, but I do like A Perfect Circle, so this is more Maynard being Maynard I guess. Some of it's pretty dang good, some of it's ... odd.

Oh yeah, definitely influenced by Siouxsie Sioux. Also Christian Death And a few others.

It wasn't an insult. Siouxie is one of my favorites. From what I've seen of Hex I like them.

I took it as a compliment to Hex😀

They were touring with Jon Spencer and on the verge of bigger things when they were derailed by immaturity/petty personality conflicts. Unfortunately...They were great live

EDIT: timely reminder that I must go back and dive into a the Siouxsie Sioux catalog, haven’t listened in years.
