USCHO Music Thread: Less Talk, More Rock

Re: USCHO Music Thread: Less Talk, More Rock

Correct. I'm consistently stunned that rags like Rolling Stone and Spin still exist in print form. I understand the lower-circulation niche magazines like Revolver and whatnot. But the pop-focused ones... that audience simply doesn't pay for music period, let alone for publications about it. This is to say nothing about the bull**** RS heaped upon itself for that nauseating tribute to the Boston Marathon bomber, and the totally bogus frat gang rape story.

Anyway, this new project of mine is starting to come together. We actually found a time when three of us can jam, we have a bunch of riffs ready to go and have all been listening to the same few records for theme and inspiration. I guess some day we'll figure out who will sing?
RS has become less about music/movies and more about being a political mag in the last few years. The pol thing has always been there, of course, but the focus USED to be on music and such, IMO. Not anymore.

For the hell of it: https://neutronfriends.bandcamp.com/album/protons-and-electrons-atom-6-petulant-messiah-rally-hvac

My band is called Rally, we’re the b-side on this 7”. Recorded at our practice space.

That song ("HVAC") is great. Are you the frontman/singer?

Love those angular guitar riffs like Gang of Four, and the lyrics remind me of the jumping around on King Crimson's "Elephant Talk." Son, I am impress!

Just hit the east side of the LBC
On a mission trying to find Mr. Warren G...

Rainy day, I don't want to go outside... 90s rap/hip hop will do.

Thank you! I’m the drummer. We do love Entertainment! by Gang of Four and wow, I hadn’t Thought of King Crimson lyrically, although I do really like Them.

I had no idea Paul Weller was still recording. Well at least as recently as 2015. Saturns Pattern sounds like something I'm going to want to get if White Sky is any indication.

I've also been looking for some new music to get and since 2014 was really the last year I paid attention to new releases I've started digging into 2015 and although I haven't listened to all of the following I've heard enough to explore further. If anyone feels strong (for or against) any feel free to say so:

The World Is a Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die – Harmlessness
Arctic Monkeys – Tranquility Base Hotel
Interpol – Marauder
Beach Slang - The Things We Do to Find People Who Feel Like Us
HEALTH - Death Magic
Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit and Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit
Father John Misty - I Love You Honeybear
Alabama Shakes - Sound & Color
Grimes - Art Angels
Kagoule – Urth
Blur - The Magic Whip
Dilly Dally - Sore

Some not new music I've been rotating in today is the Pixies - Doolittle, Surfer Rosa, Bossanova, Trompe Le Monde, Death to the Pixies...

I really like Courtney Barnett. It’s not groundbreaker nag but like The White Stripes it seems like a breath of fresh air after all the stomp/clap stuff like Lumineers that has permeated indie rock.

Has had two studio recordings out in the last couple years, plus a new live album set with the Philharmonic, I believe. He's one of my facebook likes, so I get notifications all the time.

Still on the lazy Sunday vibe, and closing the day with Norah Jones "Little Broken Hearts" and "Day Breaks."
