Re: USCHO Music Thread: Less Talk, More Rock

Some of you probably have seen the same meme/reddit/whatever, but the one where "Someday there will be an 80 year old couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, and "Dre Day" will be cranked up, and I don't know how to feel about that."

:D

Funny. Just the other day I was listening to many of her different projects (Sonic Youth, Body/Head, Free Kitten, Mirror/Dash) and I too noticed her age.

I need to delve into her other projects, I bet they’re great.

I also want to hear what Lee Renaldo’s been up to.

dx --- RS12 -- RS03 -- Album
100 ― 200..200....The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
200 ― 100..100....The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

483 ― 479 ―..479....Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
484 ― 469 ―..469....Fugees - The Score - I loved this album. I don't remember hearing their version of No Woman, No Cry but it was fantastic. I can hear a TON of more recent acts in their music who clearly used them as inspiration.
485 ― 500 ―..000....OutKast - Aquemini
486 ― 503 ―..950....Creedence Clearwater Revival - Green River
487 ― 530 ―..441....No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom
488 ― 516 ―..317....Eminem - The Eminem Show
489 ― 535 ―..474....Otis Redding - Live in Europe
490 ― 496 ―..000....Boz Scaggs - Boz Scaggs

494 ― 499 ―..000....B.B. King - Live in Cook County Jail
495 ― 474 ―..000....Manu Chao - Próxima Estación: Esperanza - This was shockingly good. I know I say that a lot about these albums, but I've been genuinely surprised by a number of these albums.
496 ― 489 ―..489....Kiss - Destroyer
497 ― 486 ―..486....Earth, Wind & Fire - That's the Way of the World
498 ― 484 ―..484....Mott the Hoople - All The Young Dudes

503 ― 491 ―..491....Albert King - Born Under A Bad Sign
504 ― 476 ―..476....The Notorious B.I.G. - Life After Death - Got boring. But overall I liked it.
505 ― 522 ―..412....Massive Attack - Mezzanine
506 ― 534 ―..468....Elton John - Elton John
507 ― 531 ―..444....Boogie Down Productions - Criminal Minded

516 ― 515 ―..316....No Doubt - Rock Steady
517 ― 471 ―..471....Richard and Linda Thompson - I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight - I honestly don't know how to rate this album. Maybe if I were in a better mood while listening to it, it would have been better.
518 ― 482 ―..482....Steve Earle - Guitar Town
519 ― 509 ―..260....Buena Vista Social Club - Buena Vista Social Club
520 ― 483 ―..483....Gang of Four - Entertainment!

524 ― 505 ―..164....Linda Ronstadt - Heart Like a Wheel
525 ― 470 ―..470....LL Cool J - Radio - This was 11 tracks of the same boring computer-like beat box. I don't get it.
526 ― 520 ―..384....Def Leppard - Pyromania
527 ― 475 ―..475....Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Armed Forces - I put this below Def Leopard because that's exactly what this deserves

Re: USCHO Music Thread: Less Talk, More Rock

My wife bought me tickets to see Weird Al at the MN state fair in August. I'm perhaps more excited for this than I should be.

Also, we were gifted tickets to the Garth Brooks concert this coming weekend. It'll be my first time at Us Bank Stadium, and first time seeing Garth. I wouldn't ever shell out the cash for him, but I'm told he puts on a great show, or at least he did back in the 90s.

Five star rating.

Maybe it's your taste that's awful?

That's an overly generous rating. That album is very uneven: tracks 1, 2, 3, 7, 12, and 13 are up there with everything Elvis did on This Year's Model. Many of the other tracks are bad or really bad. But it's ridiculous to call it a bad album overall. FFS, this alone makes it better than every metal album in history. That is where the Beatles were trying to get with "Revolution."

His show in DC is sold out. Poop.

Re: USCHO Music Thread: Less Talk, More Rock

DX: Fugees cover of "No Woman" was good, IMO. Fit their style, captured the spirit, etc.

As for LL...his debut album, and the rap genre was still in growing pains. Rick Rubin produced it (he also did "Raising Hell" by Run DMC) and he went back to the basics, which was unheard of in that era. When he did RH, the group was asking about horns, synths, whatever, and Rick said, "Nope, that is a finished product." Rick wanted to produce what was heard in the streets before hip hop/rap was actually being recorded by the studios. Drum machine and rhymes. That's it. Pretty much forced the MCs to write good lyrics; they couldn't hide behind the music.

Radio is one of my fave rap albums of all time.

R.E.M.- Automatic

My favorite from them, yes. And with Mother's Day hitting me especially hard today, "Sweetness Follows" and "Everybody Hurts" were songs I needed to hear today.

Kim Gordon's story about her interview with LL, and the song it inspired ("Kool Thing"), is great.

Got a ticket to see Mudhoney in Detroit this October. They're playing some little venue in Mexicantown/Southwest Detroit! (for years, this was supposedly the really bad part of town)
