USCHO Music: From Queen to The Beatles to Lady Gaga

Back in my Bittorrent days, maybe about 15 years ago or so, I was getting a bunch of live shows. I think at that time there were about 48 known live recordings of New Order shows. I have, I think, 44 of them, either burned to cd, or still on my PC waiting to be converted from Flac to WAV so they can be burned to cd.

I probably have that show somewhere. There were a bunch of shows recorded from the Hacienda.

Sadly, I will no longer pay money to go see New Order. Without Hooky, it's not the same. I did go see Peter Hook and the Light about 8 years ago, and the show was great, even if I missed his son, who was out touring with Smashing Pumpkins at the time. Would go see them again anytime.

Saw New Order twice back in the day. First show was a disaster, they had all sorts of technical problems and cut the show short. Looked around when the lights came up, and there was about 30 cops all in riot gear lining the back wall of the theater. I didn't see any rioting, but the show gets a mention in Hooky' s book that there were some incidents outside the theater.

Second show a year or so later was just brilliant. These would have probably been the Low-life and Brotherhood tours.
I've never seen them but yeah I probably would not go now with their current lineup.

PH and the light performed in Mpls in 2014 but it was unfortunately 3 months after I moved to the Philippines. Some friends of mine just saw them I think at First Ave a few months back.

I really would have liked to see his Monaco project but I think the closest they ever got to Mpls was Chicago.

I think I'm in love.
You missed your chance. Died in 2024.

That is a woman who knows what she wants and is daring you to show her you know as well. An actual human being. Repose en paix, Francoise.

I did see that. What could have been.

btw for all the maligning the Meta world (rightfully) receives, I was introduced to Francoise Hardy through it and a great many other artists I might not have otherwise met.

Just saw the screen for the new Beatles thingy. Mookie will check it out 👍🏾

Went to see the lemonheads last night. Evan had a surprisingly decent show. Floor was covered with pedals and wa wa boxes. Best to stay with one’s roots 😝

They're OK. Basically a poor bloke's deliberately commercialized Nirvana.

Fun fact - I once spotted Gavin Rossdale in the LAX Delta SkyClub (or at least pretty sure it was him). I did not introduce myself. :ROFLMAO:

Courtney Love's net worth is > $100M.

It's more the boneheadedness of bagging your idol's damaged, strung out ex who's 10+ years past her expiration date when you were already married to a ridiculously hot, successful, and very wealthy woman.

I'm not a huge fan, but I read an article on Bush about 15 years ago - I believe all the members (original at least I don't know which are left) were big students of the genre. Just because the media hypes a band doesn't mean they're not legit talented, personal tastes aside.

Hole has a song called Boys on the Radio about the often repeated self-destruction of musicians. Courtney has said it was inspired by the death of Jeff Buckley but I have to believe the loss of Kurt was in there too. It's a gorgeous song.

Do what you want
'Cause I'll do anything
And I'll take the blame

What's mine is yours
You can have all of it
And I'll learn to pay

Oh the boys on the radio
They crash and burn
They fold and fade so slow
In your endless summer night
I'll be on the other side
When you're beautiful and dying
All the world that you've denied
When the water is too deep
You can close your eyes and really sleep tonight
Tonight

I want what's yours
Oh I'd give anything
And I'll take the pain

I wait alone
For what will never come
And I'll throw it all away

Oh the boys on the radio
They crash and burn
They fold and fade so slow
In your endless summer night
I'll be on the other side
When you're beautiful and dying
All the world that you've denied
When the water is too deep
You can close your eyes and really sleep tonight
Your beauty blinds

If I let you in under my skin
And risen every angel slain

He said he'd never, ever, ever go
And heavens, heavens, heavens know
And never, ever, ever go away
Baby, I've gone away

In your endless summer night
I'll be on the other side
When you're beautiful and dying
All the world that you've denied
When the water is too deep
You can close your eyes and really sleep tonight
Your beauty blinds

I know what you are running to
Please come back
Oh, come back again
I hear the truth
It's coming from you
Oh, come back
Won't come back again

In your endless summer night
I'll be on the other side
When the water is too deep
I will ease your suffering
When the glitter fades in morning
Turn away and you will find my empty eyes
Your beauty blinds

I know that you are rotten to the core
I know that you don't love me anymore
I know that you are rotten to the core

[edit] Just went and listened to Malibu again for the first time in ?? Another gorgeous song.

People can say what they will about Courtney for all time, but IMO she can turn a phrase considerably better than Kurt ever did. There was always quite a bit of talent there and her messy personal life and struggles make a lot more sense when you consider her background and stories from her youth. Particularly if you're inclined to believe her recent accusation against a certain draft dodging, gun humping groomer and predator.

As you say, say what you will about Courtney, but Celebrity Skin is an all-time classic rock/pop album. The guitars in that just shimmer.

Now, I don't know how much of that is Courtney, or how much of it is Billy Corgan and Charlotte Caffey, and I'm gonna say a lot of it is her guitar player Eric Erlandson. But that's just a great album.

And Boys on the Radio is my favorite track on it.

Yep. All time classic. One of my fave albums. Still pop it on once in a while.
