USCHO Music: From Queen to The Beatles to Lady Gaga

Saw Rancid, Smashing Pumpkins, and Green Day tonight. Great ****ing show.

pumpkins played a bunch of hits, which, hell yes.

Green Day headlined for the 30th anniversary of Dookie and the 20th anniversary of American Idiot. They played both in their entirety. Plus their new album.

I also learned that Billy wrote American idiot while walking around Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. Interesting.

That is awesome and I'm very envious. I have several friends that were in attendance and they all had positive reviews.

More bands need to play full albums straight through. It's the best way to hear them.

This morning I found the The Pioneer Press review said that "it went 30-minutes too long"

like dude, shut the fuck up. Just say you're old or don't like the last half of American Idiot. Because that concert did NOT go on too long. It was a little over two and a half hours. And if three 50+ yos want to get up on stage and play two iconic albums and their newest album, and do it with energy and a clear love of entertaining, you find that energy to jam out with them and enjoy that experience.

Went on too long. Christ.

Harriet, sweet Harriet.
Hard hearted harbinger of haggis…
…This poem…sucks.

A FB post got me to thinking of the local music scene starting in the mid-80’s. Spent many days chasing these bands around amont others:

The Suburbs – Love is the Law https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7C4FuY-yUQ
The Wallets – Totally Nude https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlDnPHqv0cs
Soul Asylum – Cartoon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IAF5Q6S79I
Babes in Toyland – Swamp Pussy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qf47fl2lDaw
Tina & the B-Sides – Paper Doll https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4FfuBtAaTE
Trip Shakespeare – The Nail https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAb60s0VKjc

Unfortunately The Suicide Commandos were before my time but my brother said he got to see them a few times https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7ZbNVb7Qh0

Friends!!! I saw Living Colour last night for the first time in 30 years…

omg, they kicked so much *** it was incredible.

they played several songs off each of their first 3 LPs, and bassist Doug Wimbish, who was a session musician prior to going LC for the 3rd LP, led a section where they covered “White Lines” and “The Message” …Wimbish recorded with Grandmaster Flash, The Sugar Hill Gang, etc.

these guys didn’t just write great songs they are MONSTER musicians. And Corey Glover’s voice is incredible. Sounds exactly as it did in the early 90’s!!! I would bet he avoided the traps that ruined other people’s voices (smoking, excess drinking, etc)…if you have a chance I highly recommend seeing them. This was exactly what I needed to see and hear from a band that inspired me when I was in college.

Re-reading this, I now regret passing on the music festival they were playing in New Orleans when the wife and I were there last October.

They have a second wind now and I bet you’ll get another chance soon. They’re touring frequently now like Smashing Pumpkins and Jane’s Addiction are.

it would be awesome if they could hook up with Jane’s like a mini lalapalooza 1

Dr. Mrs. and I will be on a cruise to Nova Scotia next week. The musical entertainment is Air Supply, in the flesh.

My first thought was, “Why would they book Air Supply?” My immediate realization was that the is a clearly a cruise intended for old people who either like bad music or people who simply don’t like music.
