USA-Canada U-22/Development Team Series 2016

Exactly. That was my point a while back that triggered this whole discussion. Well said.[I think the mistake the U.S. is making is in the choice of their elite team. They tend to pick flashy players or the coaches pet. Case in point Mark Johnson had almost a soccer team of Wisconsin players at the Olympics. Canada won! Katey Stone picks Pucci, Fry and puts Chu in for the last minutes of the gold medal game...Canada won! Gigi Marvin is not a D! I still think there's work for USA hockey in finding the best players especially on the Defense side. It seems to me that they are picking the flashiest offensive defensemen to build their pipeline and we all know that Defense wins championships. Hannah Brandt is not flashy and she's not Bobby Carpenters kid but she plays to win and she can score goals. Why she wasn't on that team is still a mystery. Meanwhile Canada is building a team that wins gold medals Olympic after Olympic. With Agosta, Poulin and a Defense that defends that just might be enough.

EXPERIENCE. That is why. You don't just show up to the biggest stage in the world and make it happen with a lot of young kids and first timers. You can take this to the bank. The US is loaded with experience and leadership, and are finally going in the correct coaching direction at this point. The US will always compete. The difference between winning and losing is such a small margin of error in the competition between US and Canada today. Just remember without the US you are just a house league playing against each other.

knight will be 28 in 2018
you should compare knight to someone of equal age like rebecca johnston

And Poulin will be 27 in 2018 so both are of virtually equal age. Both will be in their prime. IMHO they are the respective stars of their teams.

If the US shot at the empty net had gone in instead of hitting the post, would we be having a different discussion?

Maybe, but there were some questionable decisions by the supreme overlords and the players on the ice, which could be attributed to the supreme overlords.
