USA-Canada U-22/Development Team Series 2016

Re: USA-Canada U-22/Development Team Series 2015

Re: USA-Canada U-22/Development Team Series 2015

Hensley and Maschmeyer firing away on goal with impunity? If you look very carefully at the scoresheet in the Canadian press release, it reports that only two of the Canadians' 15 shots and only one the USA's 25 shots were taken by the 40 "skaters" on the two teams; presumably the goalers took the other 37 shots (LOL)?
It is common when games are short-staffed that the owner of a SOG isn't logged, at least in terms of what is publicly available. I see it often with high school games. While we'd hope for more with an international event, these in truth are really little more than high-profile scrimmages of teams put together just to get some practice, so it isn't surprising that the U.S. takes the cheap route. Canada usually puts a little more effort into it when it hosts.

Re: USA-Canada U-22/Development Team Series 2016

GAME 3 - USA wins in overtime, 2-1.

Hannah Brandt scored both USA goals, with the gamewinner coming on a power play that carried over from the third period. Dani Cameranesi recorded an assist on the first goal. I'm going to overrule the official scoring and say that Lee Stecklein should have the assist on the second goal; it was credited to Cameranesi, but I watched it live and I replayed it to make sure, and, of the four Americans on the ice, the other three all touched it after Dani and before it went in the net.

Victoria Back scored 2 minutes into the game for Canada, assisted by Laura Stacey. But USA goalie Lexie Shaw shut them down after that.

It was definitely Stecklein (#2) as you say, but as of yet it is still credited to Cameranesi.

I doubt it will get updated anywhere, since this was only a "friendly" series between the two organizations and not a tournament where there's a reason for getting it right. For each of the three games, the two organizations reported different stats (such as shots on goal) and there was no consistency (example from Game 1 was the reporting on when Canada made their goaltending switch and the number of goals each netminder allowed).

At any rate, here are a couple of additional links from Game 3

-- Hockey Canada recap and stats

-- USA Hockey recap with video (though Meghan Duggan still said the assist on the gamewinner was Dani's  )

Thank god they didn't make a mistake on a goal!

Stats recap...

Hannah Brandt was the only player with multiple goals, scoring 3. She was also the only player with 3 points (several others either had a goal and an assist, or 2 assists).

On the goaltending side, Nicole Hensley and Lexie Shaw were pretty solid in net for the USA, allowing only 4 goals in the 3 games combined. Emerance Maschmeyer also had a good showing for Canada, yielding only 3 goals in roughly 150 minutes of work. Unfortunately for Golden Gopher fans such as myself, Team USA scored 4 times on Amanda Leveille in about 30 minutes of action.

As always, the teams were very evenly matched. I'd be interested in thoughts from anyone in Lake Placid watching it live.

Re: USA-Canada U-22/Development Team Series 2016

Hmmm....The "USA has more speed than Canada" comments have been discussed on this board many times over the last 8 to 9 years (Post Turin Games).....While the USA has for sure done better than Canada in the Worlds, Canada has won two Olympics, and at the U18/U22 level things have been fairly even over those years, some years Canada better, some years USA better.

My point is yes, speed is an important factor, but there is more to the game.

wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong
Since the last quadrennial of 2010 U18s it was obvious speed and skill would play a big factor now and we are seeing it since 2013 at the national level with the appearance of amanda kessel, decker, coyne......

americans 2010 U18s had generational talent kendall coyne....who was the best canada had.....jessica campbell....yeah jessica campbell.....the discrepancy is so telling ....this is sad
the goals scored by USA last world championships were mostly all from superior speed (and skill)....like pankowski's first goal
the train that is team canada women is running with wheels falling off and headed towards a giant cliff
sorry but if leveille was in net for canada then team USA would have swept this series so easily

So Kendall Coyne is a generational talent?

No doubt Leveille has her detractors, thankfully the Gopher coaching staff aren't counted among them.

Obviously, the truest test of any goaltender is how she performs in a partial game in August. Name any goaltender who has played for a while, and we'll be able to find a game where she got lit up.

Re: USA-Canada U-22/Development Team Series 2016

So Kendall Coyne is a generational talent?

decker and coyne were the best at the U18 level and fast forward four years later they are the best at the national level....other than poulin who else does canada have?

i love brianne jenner but she is not that player yet.....and seriously the jessica campbell comparison tells all about the dire situation of team canada women's teams...

Re: USA-Canada U-22/Development Team Series 2015

Re: USA-Canada U-22/Development Team Series 2015

Also very scary....if you think the jessica campbell comparison is telling....it gets worse as years go on....

Hannah Brandt (USA) was the star of the U18s four years ago....now she is the best at U22 level and peaking for 2018 olympic team....same with annie pankowski just a year later

meanwhile the best canadian players from that era are not only nowhere close but are nonfactors in the development squads and not considered for national team spots from now till the 2018 olympics

scary

need wickenheiser and agosta and ouellette for 2018
ambrose, rattray, kelly terry, jessica campbell, and the like are not senior caliber players as seen from last year....sorry but when the coach thinks you are top line material and puts you on the first line with poulin then quickly demotes you to fourth line and then an extra behind then-substitute sarah davis that is telling of the lack of depth and ability in team canada women's teams

scary

Could not agree with you more, anyone that follows Hockey Canada Dev. teams and NCAA Women's knows that the selection of Team Canada Dev teams is a joke. Same girls as U18, unfortunately a lot of them were good at that level but have not progressed but continue to be selected year after year. Like I stated earlier the Women's Management team needs a big shakeup and review of what they are doing !

Re: USA-Canada U-22/Development Team Series 2016

So, to sum up. USA...peachy keen. Canada...Going to hell in a hand basket.
Been reading this opinion for a number of years now...off and on. I don't really buy it, completely.

I need more proof I guess.

Re: USA-Canada U-22/Development Team Series 2016

Sadly Chaffron likes to troll Women's hockey message boards with the same rhetoric. Dont let his comments fool you...he has major hate for Team Canada and takes pleasure in putting them down any chance he gets. Has already been banned from here before as well as from other boards. Also he likes to call people names if anyone dare try to dispute anything he says. Just giving you all a heads up.

Re: USA-Canada U-22/Development Team Series 2016

From what I saw I thought Canada was the better team at the U18 level. US defense seem to really struggle at times. Potomak was fun to watch , first time I've seen her play.

last year was the same situation with canada being better in the august series but at the world championships usa unleashed jincy dunne who dominated the canadians so badly it was actually so lopsided but because of solid goaltending the game managed to go to OT somehow....however there is no such jincy dunne on the USA roster this time around

yes yes yes
sadly true

the generational talents of kendall coyne and such from the last quadrennial are coming back to haunt team canada and cannot be ignored....and from the last IIHF world championships canada looks as bad as I have ever seen in both games against the States (they even got outshot 34-11 in the first game....that's a scoreline of a european vs. north american team) I was shocked...and the team USA head coach is a really good coach too....the team has added a more physical aspect to their game and it looks really good on them...the

team canada women can still win the 2018 olympics but they will need the 30-something year olds of Wickenheiser, agosta, and ouellette because the 20-something year olds (except maybe emily clark and jill saulnier) are not ready....and need usa to be bad at goaltending like at the last worlds which will make team canada forwards look like a bunch of kessels like in the gold medal game last year

Re: USA-Canada U-22/Development Team Series 2016

this is why I am glad the Canadians have won gold at the Olympics,
every time they lose a segment of the population thinks the world is coming to an end

it is kind of humorous, but it could be serious
can you imagine the increase in wife beating, suicide, ... etc. if they had lost?

the country might split apart, blaming each other for losing a hockey game
