US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

Re: US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

I get the feeling Kessel isn't 100%

I have a strong feeling that Kessel won't ever be 100% again. The scary thing is that I'm not sure she's been 100% at any point since she's become a Gopher, given that she's been having hip surgeries since she was about 12. But they seem to be piling up and I have a gut feeling that her senior season is going to be very good by objective standards but seen as a disappointment relative to the standards that she's set and the expectations of the fans.

I hope that's just the pessimist in me speaking.

I hear you. She wasn't as dominant during the Olympics as we'd been expecting.

BTW, the games are going to be live-streaming from the Hockey Canada site, presumably from here: http://stats.hockeycanada.ca/schedule/league_instance/21867?subseason=174511

US 2-1 in the U22 game. US looked more skilled than Canada as Canada had very little sustained offensive pressure. Skarupa impressed with her stickhandling abilities and Mashmeyer made some great saves to keep it close.

USA 6, Canada 0

Thorough domination; shots were 21-4 USA after 2. Not sure what they were at the end.

Re: US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

Victoria Bach looked good on Team Canada. She only recently turned 19 and will be a freshman at BU this year. She contributed on the ice with her skill, and created a few prime scoring chances in the last 2 games, unlike some other girls trying to beat up their opponents and taking dumb penalties. Heffernan = invisible in every shift. I think the Canada coach needs to be changed. Their game plan was to start beating up the US girls because they can't match their skill after getting early leads. 10 penalties against Canada. 5 of those came in the first period when US jumped to early 4-0 lead.

Yes, the Canada U18s look to have much more team chemistry than the US. See, when you have skill you don't need to beat up your opposition.

I did not know Lyndsey Fry was not on the roster. Hmm.

Another thing that Maroon and Gold can agree upon... Brandt and Skarupa should have been on the Olympic roster.

Skarupa was an interesting study last year. She started out like a bat out of hell and then cooled off considerably. She was hacked at constantly and I have a feeling that it took quite a physical toll. It sure looked like it. I know wwhyte feels the same way.

Also she was the prime offensive weapon and she was clearly targeted as such. As good as she was I really think she is going to have a breakout year this year not being the focal point of opposing D.

EDIT: Forgot this wasn't the BC thread but the point remains haha. I agree on Brandt too. I think she should transfer. ;)

Re: US National Teams: U30s & Mrs. Potter, U22s, U18s Part II

A ton of Olympians not on this. I assume that, sadly, this means that several of those not on this list are retiring. Anyone know anything about any individual players? The missing Olympians are:

- Julie Chu -- sad but unsurprising
- Meghan Duggan -- given her concussion history, also sad but unsurprising if so
- Lyndsey Fry -- presumably simply not selected
- Amanda Kessel -- speculation is that she's still fighting injury
- Kelli Stack

- Josephine Pucci -- presumably simply not selected
- Anne Schleper

- Jessie Vetter

If Stack, Schleper and Vetter are in fact retiring, I will greatly miss seeing them in action.
