US Junior Team Part II

Re: US Junior Team Part II

I can't believe the US didn't fold in OT after losing that 2 goal lead, great stuff. Blaiser must have had something to do with that:D Very impressed with D'Amigo that kid can play but so can the rest of them so I'm not surprised. When Greg Moore came back after their win he was a different player. I expect the college kids who come back will be different players also.

A certain USA player has been there very recently with his college team, and against some Atlantic Hockey teams, too. He (and I'm sure the rest of the team) knows what's done is done, it's a new game, and IIRC one of those games involved this person getting the go-ahead goal to win it.

You talking about Warofsky? His team was the one who came back last year in DC, little different than giving up a 2 goal lead.

No, I'm talking about D'Amigo. The Sacred Heart / AIC weekend earlier this season. Against AIC he had the GWG on a crucial power play after giving up a 2-0 lead.

The pressure in a champioship game is far different than a regular season game against AIC.

This is very true, even if both were for the cameras. However, it's still the same principle, and I'm sure since he had recently been in the situation, he was able to handle it a little easier than if he hadn't been it, and would have been even more nervous in the championship. Teams practice and schedule exhibition games for a reason; why not also leverage gamme experience in other leagues?

Yes I know he wasn't involved in that final rush, but I'm sure it's not just the coach giving those pep talks prior to the moment.

Re: US Junior Team Part II

Is there any chance the NHL Network will replay the game?

I don't know, but there is Video On Demand on TSN's website (if available for the USA; I know during the game was Canada only). Though the announcers were more knowledgeable of Canada's team, it seemed pretty objective.

Re: US Junior Team Part II

This

There were leaders in this stat or that stat, but over the course of two weeks, everyone contributed to the result. No player or hot goalie carried all the weight. A true team effort.

Also, no one should be calling out Lee as he played very well against Finland and Sweden to get us to the big game. Both goalies did their jobs.

Three games in four days is a lot for a 19 year old kid. Hell, NHL basically never do that.

Dear Hokydad,

On picking the team.

"I didn't want a bunch of fancy Dans who wouldn't play both ends and were cocky and arrogant and I didn't want that team. We picked guys with good character and yeah, we got a few breaks, but win or lose, I think we had the right guys here."

Up Yours,
Dean Blais

It reminds me of the story Herb Brooks once told about the 1960 olympics. I guess right after the game his dad turned to Herb who was the last palyer cut and said, "I guess they cut the right guy".............

Re: US Junior Team Part II

Just a few comments on the game and tourney.

-Dave Starman sucks! I know he is a big college hockey guy, but he is brutal behind the mic.
-Blais did a hell of a job and is a true champion. Don't fool yourselves, this championship started and ended with blais and his staff. The rest of the clowns at USA finally wised up and picked a guy who could get it done and would do things his way.
- Next years tourney might as well be in toronto because most of the fans will be canadian once again... Have it in St. Paul, Boston or Chicago and then our country will have a true home ice advantage.

Better than listening to the TSN guys all game.

Hate so say it, but when the tournament was in Boston, the games were played before friends and family, except for the Canada games in which most of the crowd was Canadian youth hockey teams in the US for holiday tournaments.

Maybe things would be better now, with a decent job of marketing and because the US has won a couple of times.

Re: US Junior Team Part II

Yes, they are replaying it today and tomorrow in the afternoon, and again on Sunday sometime. I don't remember the exact times, sorry.

Replays inthe U.S. will be on NHL Network at 6PM ET tonight and 2PM ET tomorrow. Don't see it listed on Sunday on the NHL Network schedule.

Re: US Junior Team Part II

I'm still excited about how awesome that tournament was. There is no way I will be this excited about, say, the Olympics.

Now I just need to figure out how to get something from my DVR to a DVD.
