It has to escalate...Putin needs more than just the headline about Ukraine. Imagine if Hitler had quit after the Sudetenland or Czechoslovakia...his popularity would have waned. He needed the war to keep popular support high. Putin needs a war...annexation will only work for so long. If Europe holds out and doesn't fight he will get a nice "victory" out of it but it won't last long enough or feed his ego enough. Putin can't afford to bluff now.

Russia is a Paper Tiger and most know it...and they know everyone knows it so they need to start fights just to get it up. They were hoping the false flags and the fake attempts at diplomacy would get them more...instead they are just doing what everyone knew they were going to do going back to when Trump fellated Putin in Helsinki.

Russia has the same set up of "threatened Russian minorities" in Moldova, Georgia, Kazahkstan, and the Baltic states. He can do the same thing in each of them in turn to keep his version of Dumpies creaming themselves. He knows, hopefully, his military is a joke -- "Spain with nukes." But authoritarians always push and always believe that democratic, tolerant, liberal nations are weak and divided.

I can’t imagine anyone likes this. Even oligarchs who could potentially make money off it probably don’t care for it. It would be very interesting to know what is going on behind the scenes in Russia.

Its really not that surprising...stuff like this leads to mass destabilization. The last thing strong arm leaders want right now is to be dragged into something that could lead to uprisings at home.

Putin is flirting with outright war with Europe, in the end that will harm most of the jerkoffs in or near the region than help them.

The Turks and Russians don't have a lot of love, and Putin's avowed ambition is revanchist recovery of lost territory he views as traditionally Russian -- which includes part of modern Turkey.
