Ukraine could call their bluff, renounce Donetsk and Luhansk, and join NATO and the EU now.

Addition by subtraction.

The other possibility is Russia does invade and gets bogged down in a nightmare asymmetric conflict which bankrupts the country, wrecks the military, and destabilizes the oligarchs' regime.

I would think this puts a target on Putin’s head right? I can’t imagine the oligarchs want any part of it.

What would happen if Putin nuked Kyiv? Would the west respond with military action? Just a random thing I’ve wondered about.

I'm on board with this.... how do I vote for you again?

Interesting. Remember that border crossing SUV helicopter deal?

Same border crossing, two MC-130J (air force special ops) and a V22 are circling it. The V22 went off radar.

thry took off back towards Poland.

This was the embassy staff in Lviv getting evac'd. Which I find a little surprising given how far it is from the action. That doesn't bode well for Ukraine.

Doesn’t make a lot of sense to nuke something you want to annex.

Hardly surprising coming from a fan of the party that wants to nuke its OWN country, though…

I heard from a few military brass in dc. It def ain’t good

Where in my post did I say it would make sense to nuke Kyiv?
So, pray tell then, why did you muse about that particular nonsensical thing rather than what would happen if the US nuked New Zealand or what would happen if we established a military base on the moon or if we decided to decommission all of our nuclear weapons?

I've been spending far too much time following people on Twitter outlining the troop movements and it ain't good is an understatement.

I don't know if anyone knows what happens next. I mean, not literally next, but next after the invasion begins. I sometimes wonder how fighting will be contained. We could be seeing the first shots of WWIII and it's terrifying that we have 50% of the country who thinks it was a good idea try that hitler entered Poland.

Glad I got to Latvia when I did.

The Edina boy wasn’t joking last week when he had the presser and said GTFO

Reuters reports Russia has now invaded.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the deployment of troops to two breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine after recognising them as independent on Monday, accelerating a crisis the West fears could unleash a major war.

A Reuters witness saw tanks and other military hardware moving through the separatist-controlled city of Donetsk after Putin issued a decree recognising the breakaway regions and told Russia's defence ministry to send in forces to "keep the peace".

No sports on tonight and CNN had some random show on so watched 20 minutes of Hannitu and it was as unhinged as one would expect. Scary that is where millions of people are getting their news.

Sounds like Putin is already going full Hitler...this is going to get ugly.

It will get ugly, first for Ukraine, then for Russia, finally for the whole region with a refugee crisis. That is assuming this doesn't escalate.
