Every Ukrainian has ten times the balls of GOP voters. Those scum chanting “Russia” and “putin” last night and yet not a single condemnation from an R pol.

My dad brought up a point that has been itching at the back of my brain...doesn't it seem like everyone is pushing for combat way too fast and easy? I am getting some serious "Remember the Maine" vibes from the local media and politicos. You can feel the undercurrent of the warhawks and profiteers starting to slink its way into the discourse already and it is a bit unnerving. The Right is doing it by basically calling into question Biden's manhood (and sanity) and the Dems are doing it by making this out to be the ultimate existential threat that will destroy Democracy everywhere. We aren't there yet thank God and we have to remember that. Even flipping on Maddow last night she seemed ginned up for something stronger than sanctions. We can't let fear cloud our better judgement.

This is as close to WW3 as we've ever been in my lifetime. At some point there will be a line which, if crossed by Putin, that NATO will have to respond to militarily. And at that point, China will face a decision whether to jump in behind their communist partners, causing South Korea and Japan to face their own decisions, and off we go, this time with nukes ever present in the background.

I now have a small idea what Americans in the late 1930s must have felt as Hitler was steamrolling Europe.

My dad was comparing it to the Cuban Missile Crisis...but he also thinks Putin is going to end this fast. I tend to agree with you this has to be what people were feeling when Hitler was just cakewalking into Czechoslovakia and Pohland.

This is the kind of stuff you’d have to learn from a military advisor in a camp, now people can learn it in seconds from someone across the world.
