Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Plus, it's not really the same comparing Lowell and North Dakota...no offense.

Well, Lowell and UND both get smoked by BC on a regular basis. ;)

(Not trying to compare the programs, it seems that Grimaldi and Melchiori have the same publicist or something)

The Prince of Liechtenstein, as RWD and I have dubbed him, won't back out on his commitment I don't think.

FWIW, the Sioux own the head-to-head matchup against BC 11-10-1, despite a recent lack of success. They could meet up again in St. Paul if BC doesn't crap the bed like they usually do the season after winning it all.

They are also 2-0-0 against Brown :p:D:D

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Stop using facts and let him have his little love affair with BC. It gives him a hard-on when he thinks about the Eagles beating UND. Being a Brown fan, it's all he really has, so just let him be.

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Game day!!

For those NDU fans that can't make it out, or not in Grand Forks, Tonight's game is on the FSSN and FCS! (in pregame now).

Nice to see #5 in the lineup again! Awesome he came back to finish an amazing Fighting Sioux Career!!

I read this a few years ago but it seems appropriate...Brown is the color of my poop...thank you.

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Speaking of Grimaldi, it will be interesting to see how he (and fellow Sioux recruit Miles Koules) do against DU & CC this weekend during the U18 exhibitions.

Hopefully he lights the lamp a couple times and gives those teams a preview of what's in store over the next couple seasons. :D

Looks like he picked up a single assist as the U18 team got crushed in Colorado this weekend.

I watched most of last night's game. A couple of things that stuck out, for me, in a game that was about what you'd expect from an opening 60 minutes of the season.

First, I was impressed by Forbort's play. Candidly, unless there are injuries, Joe Gleason will not see any ice time on D this year. There is not way you sit Forbort for any games.

It looked to me like Mike Cichy played with a lot more poise and confidence than last year. He will be a real nice addition if he can contribute regularily.

Hak has really taken to the forward on the point of the pp concept. With the return of Kristo, I expect both the 1st and 2nd pp teams will go that route. I love Frattin's shot back there, but I can see some liability too. He did a nice job using his speed to get back and prevent a breakaway shorthanded chance in the 2nd period last night, but during that same period made a real bad play on the point that lead to a big shorthanded odd man breakaway that Manitoba failed to score on only because of the incompetence of the wing carrying the puck.

I also think we're going to see some very nice things from Nelson. He didn't seem overmatched at all out there. Would have loved to see him score on that play up the middle where he dove and chipped the puck all in one motion, only to get robbed on a great glove save.

The cupcake appetizer is over. We now jump immediately to the meat of the schedule. Let's go to Alaska and get a couple of non-conf wins right away.

The 2002 and 2009 BC teams had significant departures (like Wisconsin this year) which killed them. This year's BC team returns just about everyone. Good luck with that. See you in April.

Agreed with your points on Cichy, Forbort, and Nelson.
Nelson was also excellent on faceoffs...9 wins in 10 faceoff attempts.

Good luck with that? :D
I don't think anyone is arguing that BC will be the team with the bulls-eye on their back all season. They are the best team in the country until proven otherwise.

I agree about 2002, not so sure about 2009.

Losing Gerbe was big (we were happy to see him go), but I think you can argue that the losses of Gerbe, Bertram, Brennan and a couple of additional role-playing seniors in 2009 isn't any greater than your losses of Sneep, Lombardi, Smith and a couple of role-playing seniors this year.

I certainly don't expect BC to repeat it's post-championship blues of recent past, but we can always hope. :)

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

One thing that I noticed yesterday - it looked to me that Chay was very tentative in going into the corners, especially in the first period. He seemed to be looking over his shoulder and let the forechecking forward get to the puck. Thoughts?

When Chay puts his helmet on, Pat Swanson will tell him that there's a stop sign on the back of it. Mental road block overcome.

Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0

Before the season really starts, and therefore any claim of BS is null and void, I would love to see you guys in April for all the marbles. Just for the simple epic-ness of the experience.

I still will never root for you hostile and abusive Sugar Beeters, but you can't tell me that that game wouldn't be the absolute balls.

It sure would be a nice way to stick it to those NCAA peeps, wouldn't it? ;) :)
And, as long as the Gophers weren't playing as well, it would essentially be a home game for the Sioux.

I'm not really surprised. Geoff Paukovich was very tentative to hit anyone after he broke Bina's neck, so this doesn't surprise me much. I'm not too concerned about it yet, but time will tell if it hurts him on D. Of course, if Aaron Marvin was banned from hockey, this isn't an issue.

I didn't think he looked that tentative. In fact, I recall one sequence in which he was down in the corner near where he was injured last fall and took not one, but two hard checks from behind, hitting his head into the glass. I was curious to see the effect.

He continued his shift and exhibited some of his best skating of the game, imho, with seemingly no ill effect.

I will be more curious to see if around the WCHA he gets a bit of a break in the corners from other players. After Robbie Bina came back it always seemed to me that opposing players frequently held back a little on giving him a hard check when he was up against the boards, face first. It was like they didn't want to be the guy that re-broke his neck. It will be interesting to see if Chay sees similar treatment.

I've been wondering this too, but I don't know if it's going to happen. The Bina incident was different than this. I could see the goons around the league actually gunning for him more.
