Re: University of North Dakota, version 2.0
It's all relative. If the team we play in the first round of the tourney plays poorly, or we get puck luck we could easily win. Also, UNO played a large part in forcing us off our game. We didn't play well, but it's not like we were absolutely dreadful. Dell played much better tonight as well, and kept us in the game after we fell behind early in the third.
I guess I'm an optimist when I look at the team, and it's frustrating when people are waiting in line to jump off bridges after last night's loss. It happens in college hockey, and one poor weekend in January doesn't mean too much in the grand scheme of things. I always like to point out to people the '04 season when we absolutely destroyed Denver three times, and they went on to win the NCAA Tournament (they didn't even make the Final Five that year). All it takes are two things: 1) Get into NCAA Tournament and 2) Win 4 games. The "best" team usually doesn't win. We're going to make the tournament and we're good enough to win 4 games at that level.
We did play better than last nite, but nothing to write home about. Too many penalties, lousy penalty killing at times and overall uninspired play. It was not even close to the level of play that we'll need to make it past the first round in the tourney.
