For anyone who wants a piece of Sioux merchandise before it disappears....

The Sioux Shop at REA can be found at https://www.siouxshop.com/. Jerseys are about $99, and there are some pretty neat Sioux hockey t-shirts for about $27. I just finished a mini shopping spree, as of right now they still have complete stocks.

The decision is final. No more fighting sioux. I would have been happy with this decision had the standing rock tribal members been allowed to be the ones making it, but today democracy has failed.

So I'm looking for a bit of a critique and/or ideas before I send this email.

Dear Esteemed Board Members,

All too often appointed and non-elected officials have represented people's ideas and feelings. I am grateful to all of you today for taking the first step towards ending this crazy practice. It is about time a board stands up and says "No more! We will no longer represent people!". You, ladies and gentlemen, are pioneers. Because of this I feel it is the University of North Dakota's duty to choose a nickname that honors your revolutionary stance. The UND C^cksuckers would do this quite well.

Again, I can not properly express how refreshing your decision is. It has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt how valuable you are to the human race and why ignoring what people actually want is so important. If more people were like you, negroes and womenfolk wouldn't have the right to vote. This is why you are on the ND SBoHE and not the Crosby, ND Park and Recreation Board. You make the tough decisions and do what no one agrees with because you are that important and that much smarter than the rest of us.

It is a damm shame that the Fighting Sioux name will be going away. Someone needs to get the rights to the name and logo and start producing new products when all the existing stock is gone. No one can stop the fans from wearing Sioux jerseys, etc.

Totally agree; what a crock. I have a 10 year old "Sioux" jersey that I wear on occasion - just because it's cool -- even as a Badger fan. (However, only in the off season ;) ). I will probably buy more UND gear before this storied name goes away.

Political correctness is still running wild. Trust me, I know. I live in the land of the perpetually offended.

Not sure.
Brad's UND blog says that UND would still be the Fighting Sioux next season. Not sure on that...

The State Board of Higher Education has retired the use of the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo. I'm told that UND will still be the Fighting Sioux for next season.

I'd guess that after next season it's gone. They'll start phasing it out this season, while starting to remove the logos.

Add in some sort of contest to rename the team, followed by UND disregarding the "winner" and coming up with something bland.

Hmmmm. The North Dakota Something Bland. I like it. And the team color would be what? A kind of nondescript beige?;)

It wouldn't have affected the hockey team. It's the football team that would have been affected once they become post season eligible and make the DI FCS playoffs...they would be on the road for the whole thing.

That and the football boosters didn't like the idea of not being able to schedule Minnesota in football for the <strike>easy win</strike> big payday that would come with it...
