University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

I just don't get the NCAA on this one. When will it go after Notre Dame? Maybe I'm offended by Fighting Irish.

And, frankly, I'm a bit surprised UND caved. The only penalty, as I understood it, was that the NCAA wouldn't let UND hold postseason events, right? Seems to me that if it wanted the nickname that would be a small price to pay.

Hockey is their main moneymaker, IIRC. Imagine post season hockey NOT at the Ralph......no money.

That would only be if UND wasn't able to get permission from the affected tribes, which was in the process of being OKed.

Well, from here on out........F the Flickertails!

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

UND caved because they don't have a conference for sports other than hockey and football right now. The Summit League, which UND hopes to get into, is run by like minded numbskulls who think it's their job to educate people on how horrible Indian nicknames are.

I don't even like the Sioux, but that is ****ing bull****. Nothing but complete ****ing bull****. I hope every one of those pieces of **** on the board of education that was against the logo ****ing dies a horrible painful death, witnessed by their children.

I better purchase myself a Sioux jersey soon, then. Love the logo, the nickname, etc. Sad to see it go.

Hey All,

we have officially stumbled to a new low in this country. I grew up in GF and loved going to Fighting Sioux games as a kid. I will be very sad to see the name retired. To all those that opposed the name, take a long hard look at yourselves and tell me what you just accomplished. Political correctness in this country is so over-the-top, and only getting worse. As George Carlin stated, just another instance of the pussification of america. God rest 'the Fighting Sioux'...

Stev

P.S. UND will ALWAYS be 'the Fighting Sioux' to me... screw the PC police!!!

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

I won't call them by any other name. Ever.

When was the last time UND hosted hockey playoffs? Holy Cross beating Minnesota?

WCHA playoffs are run by the conference, not the NCAA...

Re: University of North Dakota - Offseason Thread 2010

I think this is absolute bull***** by the NCAA. If you're going to ban ALL Indian mascots, I can live with that. But to ban just one, while the biggest teams still have their mascots riding horses, throwing "war spears", and doing the tomahawk chop is just plain capricious stupidity.

I see this as an attack on college hockey by the NCAA. They know it has a relatively small fanbase, so they don't mind coming after the Sioux. Complete hypocrisy.

I don't blame the ND board. Their hands were tied by the NCAA. They can't fight it forever, it costs too much and while they're fighting they are still banned from holding playoffs at the Ralph.

All Fighting Sioux fans should just load up on jerseys and t-shirts. The NCAA can't tell you what you can and can't wear. I hope when NoDak gets the chance to host a post season tournament, the entire arena is full of Indian head logos and the Sioux name. I think I may go on ebay and buy that green Sioux jersey, always liked that one.

FIGHTING SIOUX FOREVER!!

PERIOD.

I am ****ed this is happening but I will wear my FIGHTING SIOUX clothing as proud as I have always done!

Screw the NCAA and the SBoHE and you people think you are good leaders!

We warned you of this PC movement several years ago as it was sweeping through Massachusetts. Very few took us seriously. Look at Massachusetts and see where you are headed next unless you decide to put a stop to the far left before it is too late.
