University of North Dakota-2015-2016-Seaason

Re: University of North Dakota-2015-2016-Seaason

Applauds to North Dakota and Denver for opposing the rule despite it being advantageous to them.

NCAA Hockey 101: Familiar Frozen Four field just fine
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-p...ar-frozen-four-field-just-fine-215855708.html

"Once again, one has to believe that the ability of non-traditional powers to level the playing field and more-than-occasionally make it to the Frozen Four by taking older recruits is generally good for the sport. It is of course not good for BC, North Dakota, and Denver, necessarily. But at least, the latter two teams have seen their coaches come out and repudiate the rule proposal, saying it would be bad for the game. Jerry York, of course, knows from whence the butter for his bread comes and supports the rule because it likely means fewer losses to Lowell, Northeastern, Providence, and so on.

UND and DU both won the majority of their NC with overage Canadians, so maybe they want to keep the option open for the future.

:) That excuse will never escape Happy's white-knuckled grip.

Odd how UND is such an old team and yet also has an average team age younger than the Gophers by roughly a month this season.

Re: University of North Dakota-2015-2016-Seaason

Nowhere did I ever say that the NCHC sucks. I believe the terminology that I used was overrated and overhyped, which I stand by. There are a few good teams in that conference, as there are in most conferences.
Too much hype! Only got half of their conference in! Only got 2 Frozen Four teams for the second year in a row! Underacheivers! Let's compare the NCHC and the Little Six.

NCHC - 13 teams into the NCAAs in 3 years. 4.33 teams per year. 54% of the conference on average. 5 teams into the Frozen Four.

Lil' 6 - 4 teams into the NCAAs in 3 years. 1.33 teams per year. 22% of the conference on average. 1 team into the Frozen Four.

Hockey East has the same number of Frozen Fours since re-alignment. HE and ECAC each have a title. Not sure who you are comparing the NCHC to that would result in being "overrated".

The fact of the matter is that the Midwest Regional Final was anybody's game heading into the last half of the 3rd period. To North Dakota's credit, they found a way to gut out a tough win against a quality opponent. They deserve credit for that, as I have already mentioned previously.

A quality opponent? They were playing Michigan.

Michigan does deserves credit, though, for keeping it within a goal for most of the game. Especially when the Hawks had almost twice as many shots on goal. Then after the Wolverines tied it up, North Dakota scored two goals in the next 5 minutes to put the game away.

However, I do think that the BC/Quinnipiac semifinal is for all intents and purposes the "real championship game". Based on what I have seen so far, in my objective opinion those are clearly the two best teams.
Yes. Your opinion is, without a doubt, objective. As you have displayed so often, you have no biases whatsoever.

Re: University of North Dakota-2015-2016-Seaason

Good discussion, but it is not even in question that NCHC is the best top to bottom league in the country :)

Happy wasn't saying the gopher players are younger, he was saying they are less mature.

Well, that could certainly be debated but most people strongly agree the NCHC is quite a bit above the big10. Speedkills has an issue with that... he wishes so bad that the big10 was the dominating conference they said it would be that he truly is blind to the facts. I mean, he really believes UND was completely outplayed by Michigan. Not many others saw it that way when you want something so bad, some will fabricate things up in their mind. There is no doubt that the big10 is at a low and they will have some very good years in the future... but that time isn't now, no matter how bad Speedkills wants it to be. Should be a great frozen four, all the teams are different but very good.

In recruiting news... the rich getting richer. Jonny Tychonick and Keegan Karki to UND.

We'll see how rich in a couple of years. Until those highly drafted CHL kids actually set foot on campus, there are always questions. As for Karki, he has something you can't teach, which is size. But recruiting young goaltenders is really risky. Personally I kind of like grabbing the late bloomers who show something in the USHL or NAHL. Karki could be a home run, or he could be a kid we never see play.

All recruits are gambles for whatever reason... size, talent, heck in NoDak's case, just making it to campus. But these two are great gambles in my opinion. Great gambles that had many other top programs after them.

I think there is also some value in getting commits even if they go major junior. Most of these kids end up playing away from home before completing high school, and they know who each other are. Hearing that an elite player has chosen UND contributes to the reputation of the program. It's a little like high academic achievers choosing undergraduate colleges. UW Madison or UND might have just as good of a program for a particular student in a particular field of study as an Ivy League school, but overall reputation tends to mean something to them, even if their parents and teachers offer their own counsel. North Dakota has a very strong reputation among junior and professional coaches and managers, and players hear that. And that is why the rich get richer. Decommits are another matter. That is like a bad referral in business.

I agree. And they also have Tomek. Not to worried about the goalie situation moving forward after Cam is gone.

Best of luck to you tonight. Should be a good game. Either team should represent the conference well in the championship. Bring one home!

From what I can see on tv, most of the the NoDak fans at Amelie during the BC-QU game appear to be rooting for Quinnipiac. I'm very supportive of this, but I'm just curious: any reason why? I would think you guys would rather play the lower seed (BC).

We have a little "history" with BC. Plus, we're not the smartest group.
