University of Maine Off-season 2024: Insert Pun Here

Guess my source was correct. Great to see Natl champs come to town and with student gone maybe I can get a ticket : )

The news had a piece where they mentioned Nadeau and Brazeale both had offers to go pro and turned the offers down to come back next year. So we should feel fortunate. And fortunate that the transfers want to come to Maine and play big games.

The lines jumbled a lot this year, so hard to predict what the lines will look like. I’m sure whatever we guess will wind up not being what it ends up as. The pairings were more steady. I thought Hopkins played well in his own end but needed work on his break out passing and puck lugging, which could be adjustment to game speed from BCHL to NCAA. I didn’t think Arnott was strong in his own end down the stretch. I could also see Somers being pushed off a year since he only played in SJHL and likely needs a year in a better league. Also, not sure who would be a third goalie this year? Likely a walk on type.

Here is just a guess so we can see the way the team is set up:

Seniors - 6
Juniors - 6
Sophomores - 11
Freshmen - 8

Lines:
******
Makar(3.5)/Breen(4.0)/J.Nadeau(4.5)
Freel(3.5)/Scott/Mitton(4.0)
Scholle(3.5)/Renwick(4.0)/Fowler(3.75)
Peluso(3.75)/Russell(3.75)/Niemo(3.5)

Pairings:
*********
Brazeale(3.5)/Antonacci(3.75)
Holt(3.5)/Charbrier(3.75)
Lesakowski(3.75)/Hopkins(4.25)

Goalies:
********
Bioja
Berzins(3.75)

Reserves:
**********
RW- James(3.75), Raftery(3.75), Carney
C - Califiore(3.5), Komarov(3.5), Pichette(3.5)
LW- Somers(3.5)

RD - Arnott(3.5), Dalton(3.5)
LD - Nobes(3.5), Morse(3.5)

Alfond is on Denvers schedule jan 3/4. The team will have that one circled on their calendar for sure!

Denver coming to Alfond for two games will be a plus on there schedule...hopefully Quinnipiac will be also on the schedule and coming to Maine ...played @QU last season...with those two teams plus HEA schedule would make for a real strong schedule.

What are the numbers after each player?

Not sure about QU I think they wanted to play other HE teams and we filled the obligations of the home and home last year. It could be another ECAC team through

Don't we play Q every year? I thought it was basically an informal tradition that we always had a series against them.

It is the Nuetral Zone rating if I could find it.

All information is useful, I guess. But I'm not sure how useful NZ ratings are. Brazeale and Holt at 3.5 (both were at NHL dev camps last summer) but Hopkins, who couldn't get a regular game, at 4.25. Makar, Freel and Scholle at 3.5 (Makar is an NHL draft pick who will be a senior, Freel had 22 points as a sophomore, Scholle had 11 as a Freshman playing 33 games in HE), but Russell is 3.75 having been sent back to junior after 0 points in 7 games for Clarkson.

On the lines, my guesses would be close to yours. Although, I wouldn't be surpised at another portal portal forward coming in, as grooverider says, and I think it's tough on Calafiore to sit. I doubt that Russell makes the starting lineup. I would also be suprised if Arnott wasn't in the lineup.

Maybe call me crazy, but with Makar's skill set and pedestrian stats in Amherst, I don't see him being on the first line, or even the top six. My projection looked more like this:

Nadeau-Breen-Mitton
Freel-Scott-Scholle
Pichette-Renwick-Fowler
Makar-Cisar-James
Extras: Komarov, Taylor, Raftery, Russell

Breazeale-Antonacci
Holt-Arnott
Lesakowski-Charbier
Extras: Dalton, Hopkins, Morse

Boija
Berzins
???

I know Mitton and Nadeau are both right shots, but I feel like those are your three best players, so now that Bradly is gone and Josh dosen't have someone he's guaranteed to be playing with, why not stack your three best offensive players together? Although if you wanted to split them up and have some balance, I could see that too. With freshmen obviously it's extremely difficult to project, but with him being the oldest incoming forward and having decent stats in the BCHL, I have Pichette in my starting lineup. James too, PPG is no joke and is similar to Scholle's stats at a similar age in the same league, but again with freshmen it will be impossible to tell until they're here, I though Hopkins would be a major contributor this past year and was clearly wrong.

I don't see any reason to expect the defense to change, with all six starters returning (at least at this point), I think someone would have to really impress in practice to crack the D corps at this point.

And of course, in goal you have your 1A 1B between Boija and Berzins, we'll see who takes that third string spot but I think the Killer B's in goal will make for a solid goaltending foundation. Maybe they go like the Bruins and do a rotation? I doubt it but who knows.

Your guess is as good as mine. You have Cisar coming in this fall. Not so sure now since his production dropped off down the stretch, and he is listed as starting 2025 on Heisenberg now.

I also noticed you don’t have Califiore, Neimo, and Carney listed in reserve. I have heard they are all returning, though there is medical concern on Carney since they think it is his back.

Thinking your correct on that...but 4 solid adds thru the Portal...and the biggest in that both Breen & J.Nadeau returned...both heart & soul players...gamers!!...solid team that needs to be stronger and few tweaks here and there ..power-play needs to be much better and the breakout of there own end...plus goaltending will be major factor(imo)...we all know what Bojia can do...and with Berzins coming in...hoping he too can handle the college game to a level we could see a tandem on a weekend basis....A team that will need to improve in all areas ..but at this point...we know what they as a team that's going to be iced in October.

One of the recent interviews this week Barr said they will likely bring in one or two more players. Third goalie assumed to be one of those anyway. A second player?? will see.
