University of Maine Off-season 2024: Insert Pun Here

A couple of interesting players entered the portal today…

Riley Thompson - LW- 3.25 - (?) Big left shot wing, power forward, 6’4” and 200 lbs, had 24 points his freshman season at Alaska-Anchorage.

Colby Ambrosio - RC - 4.75 - (?) Small right shot center, play maker, quick nifty, thinks the game ahead, good vision, playmaker passer, 5’8” and 162 lbs, has one year of eligibility left. He had scored more significantly in previous seasons. Seems like he got buried on BC’s roster? Maybe no power play time either?

On Ambrosio, I’m interested to see what he could do in a different environment to see if he can play up to his rare and high nuetral zone rating if he played on a top line and top power play unit.

Thompson might be a tad slow, but he’s got size and skill and plays a heavy game. BU has a couple of those types that work for them in front of the net.

Looks like there are many more players hitting the Portal...with that said is there a deadline to how long the Portal is open for this off season.

Bradley all but scored in his debut. He had one chance where he was at the net front setting screen, puck winds up behind the goalie on the line at rest, he tries to get a stick on it behind the goalie and takes a big hit to the grill keeping him away from the puck. He wound up with a bloody lip. Welcome to the big leagues. He also had three other quality shots on net… two one timers on the power play from his favorite spot on the left face off dot, and then a back hander from in close. He was in front of the net all night setting screens and looking for tips. Got one redirect that went wide and across the crease. He drew one penalty to put Carolina on a power play. He had a very good debut.

He also had a little one-touch pass in front of the net to Noesen (I think) that should have been a Grade A shot but it got whiffed on.

It's unlikely because he'll just be a black ace but hope we see him get into a game in the playoffs.

He was -3, not sure if he was on the same line all game.

I assume Ross Mitton is the big portal addition for us. He scored 11-19-30 at Colgate and wore the A. Seems like a good get

McMahon tweeted about it, nice! I had highlighted him a little while back, so I am thrilled with this pickup. Really good get imo.

From strictly a portal perspective, the additions have outweighed the loses. Obviously nothing is making up for Brad, but the team should still be pretty dang good.

Well, a lot depends on if Josh Nadeau and Lynden Breen are coming back. I believe they said Josh was in attendance to watch his brother play last night at the Canes/Blue Jackets game. If so, he likely had some time to talk to some Canes folks. He attended their summer development camp last year. Ross Mitton does play RW, which is where Josh plays. Though they are quite different style of players.

He looks to bring to the power play some of what Brad did at the left dot.

Solid move by Maine with Mitton...thinking 50-50 w/Breen....Nadeau is more likely not coming back...but word is Montreal is in on J.Nadeau...but as a previous poster has said...don't count out Carolina...would be quite the bonus to get both Breen/J.Nadeau back plus the 4 additions thru the Portal...

I feel like Breen is coming back and Josh is not.

Agreed.

Interesting tidbit is that Brazeale and Breen were with Barr to meet Janet Mills at the state capital building this week. I would think if you weren’t coming back you wouldn’t be acting as captain on trip to the state capital. Seems like your priorities would have shifted to focus on offers/tryouts, etc… So this seems like he is still leading the team and is planning on returning as a co-captain with Brazeale.

I think Breen comes back. Josh I have no idea but I question his effectiveness without his brother.

I'd take Josh in a heart beat over Bradley...Josh plays the whole 200' game...he's a gamer thru and thru...it's the other way around...Josh made Bradley's game tick...digging and feeding him the passes...Bradley will be missed but Josh returning(if-maybe)would be a bonus...along with Breen.
