University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

Dalton to the portal. I thought he could play at this level if he cleaned up his turnovers. I'm hoping that defenseman leaving means that Holt is coming back.
Not surprising. Another playing time casualty. Wouldn’t be surprised to also see Carney, Stewart, Morse and Arnott in portal. All won’t get much if any playing time next year and the team likely is trying to balance bringing in needed upgrades and also staying at 26 players. I think in Stewart’s case the 26 roster limit makes it tough to even carry a 3rd goalie. Arnott could be a 50/50 if he stays or not. I think if the plan is to bring Lukas Peterson in early Arnott would likely want to transfer. He, like Lesakowski and Dalton, couldn’t crack the line up at defense. Filled in as forward like Lesakowski.

Hopefully all of the Maine fans are recovered from that stinging defeat that kept them out of the FF. I still am gnawed by BC going down as well. I just wish there was another Hockey East team in the FF, anyone but BU. It is so hard to cheer for them, but I will have to. BU is poised to go on a nice run in Hockey East with the talent they have coming in and the first round transfer from North Dakota as well. It could be their turn to take over for a while. Hopefully the rest of the league keeps up.
You do you. But I think Maine fans are done cheering for any HE teams this year.

There's still hockey being played? The season ended March 21. I don't think anything happened after that.

Season tickets for the women's team go on sale on 22 April, so I expect the renewals for the men's team will commence shortly thereafter.

In most cases 3rd string goalies are non-scholarship. Can't possibly see how teams do not carry a 3rd goalie, only takes a groin strain or a guy running into you to put you on the shelf. Heck Garth Snow was the 3rd goalie and got thrown in vs. Michigan State after King and DelGuidice got hurt. So I would either expect Stewart to stay other non-scholarship to come in, but who is anxious to pick-up a 3rd string with no game time?

I know but when teams opt in to the house settlement they can only carry 26 players. All get scholarships. Can no longer have non-scholarship players. This is how I understand the house settlement agreement.

That is correct-BU had 26 players at beginning of season and had 3 goalies-later had 27 and 4 goalies
There is no certainty the house settlement agreement passes the senate but likely

That Snowy thing worked out pretty well for him, just the same... ;) Pretty sure that Coach Stainbrook convinced him to come, even as the 3rd option.

Watching Wally's link today, Grant avoided any attention at the BIA on his way down the concourse, but he was an absolute giant in the process of building Maine into a juggernaut back then.

I actually approached him at the Tsongas in (maybe) 2001-2002. He was taking a walk along the rink between periods, but was so gracious and friendly, and happy to have a chat with a random Maine fan.

We settled down at the far end of the rink for a bit. I asked him many questions, and probably learned more about hockey during that 5 minutes than I have before or since.

If he isn't in the Maine Sports Hall of Fame already, he needs to get there yesterday. What a guy, God bless him.

Well, not so fast, old Bear...

If BU wins one more game, I win the pool we have here. That's all they need to do to line my pockets a little. Then, they can go pound cat litter as far as the Final goes.

(Yes, I feel some shame in rooting for them -quite a bit, truth be told- but money is money.)

I have to feed the gerbils, after all, and there are now prohibitively expensive tariffs in place on imported gerbil chow.

I didn't realize you were rooting for Satan himself.

Max Scott saying good things and will be in for workouts this summer…

“This is a big hockey opportunity. I’m really excited and pumped to get started with the Black Bears,” said Scott. “I’m looking to take my game to the next level.” He said his brother played a role in his decision to transfer to UMaine. “The culture is just on another level the last couple of years,” said the younger Scott, pointing to his brother’s experience as a Black Bear. “He’s had nothing but good things to say.”

“I’ll play anywhere they want me to and in any situation. I’ll be ready,” said Max, who intends to work out hard in the offseason, including the optional six-week program in the summer at UMaine, so that he is ready to make an impact next season.

He said he is “just making sure that my body is prepared and I’m in the right state mentally to have a great year” as he is “getting ready to make the jump to a high-end division.” The six-foot, 185-pound Scott is 22 years old. “Just continuing to work on my craft and excel even more at a higher level is what I’m getting ready for,” Scott said.

Great attitude, just like his bro

Maine got another commit, a 22 y/o defenseman.

This one's strange. He spent last season in USports so he is coming in as a 22 yo sophomore? With the returning D, where will he crack the lineup?

Maybe they envision him as some sort of depth guy? But in any event I agree, very curious pickup. Hopefully it's not meant to forecast any departures on the back end.
