We are talking about how to get NCHC teams up to Orono, meanwhile the UNH board is talking about dropping out of Hockey East. It's hard not to enjoy the direction each program is going.
I can understand Michigan would be reluctant to play at Alfond. Why play at a rabid fanbase venue where your chances of getting knocked off by what has normally been a low rpi team are pretty good? How does this benefit Michigan? And there is the revenue aspect, or lack thereof, to consider. Both of these factors would be negated by playing in Portland, where they would have a much better chance of winning at a more or less neutral venue. Plus the financial aspects should be better. And it would be easy to bus to Boston to pick up a game with any number of teams. Portland, unlike Bangor area, would offer more in the way of things to do or see along the coastline which seemingly would interest landlocked Michigan folks. To be honest I can see a benefit to both schools and their fanbases to arrange a meetup in Portland.....unless of course based on history the wolverines are just plain scared of the Bearz.I've never understood the "remote" thing that a lot of people spout off about traveling to Orono. It's 4 hours from Boston...a long ride for sure but all on I-95 and most of it is not a "busy" drive. Secondly....anyone that flies into Bangor is literally 10-15 minutes from campus and again.....right off 95. The difficulty for Maine scheduling Michigan might be due to a few factors......#1 is financial. Michigan sells out wherever they play.....Whittemore Center seats 6,500......1,500 more than Alfond. Not sure what Michigan's demands are for H & H series....but Alfond might just be too small to suit Michigan's financial demands. #2....Alfond's reputation.....any OOC opponent wants a chance to at least split on the road.....not sure the odds are in Michigan's favor in that regard. #3......Over the past 20 years, Maine has not been PWR point worthy opponent....obviously that is changing so this will be less of a factor going forward. #4.....Boston schools are always going to be more attractive if Michigan is traveling to the East Coast.....Boston is a better recruiting base and more accessible to their alums.
HE is a much better conference when Maine and UNH are doing well. Why? Both teams fans travel as good as any school in D1 hockey. I've seen North Dakota fans all over the place , just like you will see Maine and UNH fans all over the place. We are talking about how to get NCHC teams up to Orono, meanwhile the UNH board is talking about dropping out of Hockey East. Theres just something wrong with that.
Friday night in Maine, Saturday night game in AZTell your coach to do a home and home series with Maine and I’ll make sure to go then!
You can find stores that still do. But not as many as 30 years ago. Ultra rare these days are the giant jar of pickled eggs. Still can find homemade Whoopie pies. Some stores don’t have Moxie which should disqualify them from being licensed.Friday night in Maine, Saturday night game in AZDo the gas station convenience stores in Maine still sell those bright red hot dogs?

edit ....I have no dog in this "fight" as I spend the winters in Florida. What I should be pimping for is a return of the Estero, FL tournament lol
They just made that Dye, Red No 4 illegal starting ?? Get'em while they are red. Just about every C store around has a steamer full of them, Red SnappersFriday night in Maine, Saturday night game in AZDo the gas station convenience stores in Maine still sell those bright red hot dogs?
I went to a beach in Maine for a day, ate a ton of those "Red Snappers". Turned my skin bright red and felt burnt. Someone told me it was the Sun but I didn't fall for it!They just made that Dye, Red No 4 illegal starting ?? Get'em while they are red. I think you’re wise to consider UNH as a genuine threat. They have good players - Conmy, LeClerc, Lavins, and Delvin - scattered throughout their top lines, that have years of experience. Their D has enough strength to cause problems for Maine.Last year UNH was similarly also reeling at the time we went down there to face them, and we got obliterated twice over.
That said, I think 2025 Maine is a much better team than 2024 Maine, and that 2025 UNH is not as strong as 2024 UNH. And add in that it's at Alfond this time and not Durham, and it should be a more favorable result this time around. However, I've learned my lesson by now about underestimating UNH, and there are no such things as gimme games, especially against a major rival. It should be a great weekend with an electric atmosphere in the building.
Whoopie pies are the balls. Sparkee was right about that. Just be sure to opt for the peanut butter ones...I went to a beach in Maine for a day, ate a ton of those "Red Snappers". Turned my skin bright red and felt burnt. Someone told me it was the Sun but I didn't fall for it!![]()
I've seen UNH a couple of times this season, and I agree. Nobody in Maine blue should take this series for granted. Not at all.I think you’re wise to consider UNH as a genuine threat. When I lived in Texas they'd eat Moon Pies (chocolate or banana) and wash it down with an RC Cola. Too much sweetness! But come to think of it, a chocolate moon pie resembled a hockey puck! And thus we come full around, back to hockey.........Whoopie pies are the balls. Sparkee was right about that. Just be sure to opt for the peanut butter ones...
Buy three of 'em, hit the local craft brewery, and wash them down with a couple of Let's Go Black Bears IPA's.
I'm not normally an IPA guy (too hoppy for my palate), but damn, those whoopie pies even things-out beautifully.
(You're welcome.)
No, but the word on the street is he looks great. Evidently he has been working really hard and is ahead of schedule in his rehab. I think he wants to get back in the games very badly. He has been in no contact Jersey. So next step would be when he is ready to take the no contact jersey off.Anyone had a chance to make it to a practice this week? Curious to know how Breen is looking.
