University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

The fan festival on Saturday looks like it will be a great time, and the fact the team is posting on social media and promoting it is exciting. I wish they did more things like this when I was there, even if the team on-ice wasn't nearly as strong. I think its a great way to promote the team and program.

The Bracketology article on the front page needs an edit or two. Not regarding Maine- we know if BC is 1 overall and Maine is also a 1 seed it's Allentown.

But first we get Augustana listed as the CCHA rep and then Minnesota State placed in the bracket (no real difference, but still). Then, Ohio State is listed everywhere as the #8, in Manchester, but the attendance discussion says "Toledo should be okay with both Michigan State and Ohio State (playing in its home state)."

Saturday's looking to be a great day for hockey with Sweden-Finland, Maine-UNH, then USA-Canada.

I'm having a watch party for USA-Canada so hopefully we can get up a few goals early

Maybe one of the last USA/Canada games if they become the 51st state!

I fully expect UNH gameplan to start the game will involve being very physical with our forwards in hopes we retaliate on emotion because the place will be rocking.. and get them an early power play and lead.

Kids are already camped out in front of the Alfond. They are giving the student thundersticks. Not that the place needs it. But might be extra loud tonight.

The special teams stats are even between the teams. For even strength UNH is net 0 whereas Maine is +23. So to maximize their advantage conventional wisdom says avoid making this a special teams match up. I think the conditioning Maine has and their heavy style can wear on UNH. Play clean, drag them into the cave and maul them on the board and around their net.

Did you get a stuffed animal Whale to throw out for our first goal? 😃

I agree with Grooverider. UNH will try to get Maine out of Barr’s game plan. Gagne is a very physical defenseman. Maybe a bit slow-footed, but tenacious. Conmy is small and likes to stay near the blue line in hope of getting an odd man rush. Whale might have his weaknesses but he can help UNH steal a game.
