University of Maine 2024–2025: Freel-ing good

I’m looking on the NCAA website. Have they scratched the Thursday regional dates? It looks that way. It’s a wretched idea and I think kept a lot of Maine fans away last year. Friday-Sunday is much better. I had ruled it out but maybe time to start re-thinking.

As someone who watches every single game, I liked it when they were spread out more. But, yeah, I get it, some people still have jobs...:p

Yes, it's very strange. What the h$ll is going on up there ?? Maybe its too cold, 😰
North Dakota is historically one of the best closers in the game. On multiple occasions they've been ranked in the 20's in February and risen to earn an at-large invite. Denver is the opposite, having missed the tournament on several occasions despite being ranked high during the season. With NoDak ranked 22 and Denver now down to 8 history might be repeating. The good news is that they are no longer in the same conference as Minnesota so they can't gum up the works like New Hampshire can.

UHN splits or does the unfathomable and sweeps in Orono we could get sent to Fargo if they go .500 after that..puke. They aren't out of it yet as a host they can really screw us if we get a 1 seed

I don't see UNH making the field. At best, that's unlikely, IMO. Maybe a 25% chance, going on what evidence we have now.

They lost 6 of their last 7 once the hockey East schedule set in. They have 3 left with BC, two at Maine, two with Lowell, and two with UMass, and one with Merrimack. I’m guessing they go 3-5-2 against that schedule based on their recent performance and that might even be generous. UMass might sweep them as UMass would be very motivated to get into the bubble. I can’t see a below .500 team making it in. They would certainly drop from their current ranking.

My guess? 0-3 vs. BC. 0-2 vs, UMass, a split with UML and no better than a split in Orono.

Not ragging on UNH, I always root for them in the tourney, but that team seems to be a brick short of a load right now.

Anybody else watching the Beanpot?

I don't want anything to do with BC right now. They're looking like a vintage Jewwy team. Scary fast.
I was hoping for at least some entertaining and competitive games. Northeastern and Harvard were abysmal. If the Eagles can maintain this level of play they will sweep the Crockpot, Hockey East and NCAA tournaments again.

On to Providence. Maine is 17-5-3 now, and was 17-5-2 to this point last season. Last year Maine lost 5 of their next 6 games, with a sweep on the road by UNH. Need this weekend on the road vs. Providence to turn out better than last year on the road vs. UNH.

Maine needs to fight tooth-and-nail for every point making the other team upset about having to outwork Maine. Pucks down low, drag them into the cave, maul them.

DU is settling in where they belong. Let's be honest about their early season rankings - it was due to last year. They were in the bakery until they played Arizona, feasting on cupcakes.

College Hockey News Pocast With Guest Coach Barr

Interesting to hear Barr say he’s driven to watch some CHL games and it is a luxury as compared to having to fly to recruit. This most certainly means he’s been watching QMJHL games. If he’s found the time for that you can bet Eric Soltys has been to many. St. John, NB likely is the closest QMJHL team to drive too(3 hours).

Everything College Hockey is sponsoring a pregame festival for the Saturday game vs. UNH.

Should be interesting to see a story after his trip(James Murray) to Alfond for an unbiased fan’s perspective.

I'm excited for it tbh. I like the content ECH puts out and the Gameday vibe should have the students in a frenzy.

Plus having ECH show the Alfond atmosphere can't hurt. I would love to see Chiclets campus tour come up once the facilities renovations are done.
